Have been playing phone tag with a client for a couple of days. I tried again a bit ago and we both ended up on the phone at the same time. Miracles do happen. She answered her phone in Hawaii instead of about 30 miles from my place. We decided we wouldn't worry about the details until she was through with her adventure and well-tanned.
To the best of my knowledge that is the first time I've spoken with someone who was in Hawaii at the time. Australia, Italy and other exotic locales but never Hawaii.
No clients, but I had a buddy call me from a bar in Jakarta, Indonesia a few years ago...just to let me hear the only song on the juke box he recognized....Sweet Home Alabama. :pinch:
He was far more excited about it than I was...must have been the altitude.
Not a client, but the boss called once when were outside in -25 deg F on a very windy day doing high order building layout:'( (one of those rare "get it done at any cost" jobs);-)
Of course he was in Bermuda on vacation and just wanted to tell us what a great time he was having:-@
Defining windy: we were ducking hardhats getting blown off workers heads on top of the six story tall building just upwind of us.o.O
Had an old surveyor friend I hadn't seen or heard from in quite some time. He called me from an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico. Was bored.
A client wanted a consult with my father. He flew Dad down to Florida for a 3 hour meeting and back.
I was one of the first users of Topcon Tools software. I had some concerns and questions about the capability and developing reports.
I called Topcon and they said that they would pass my inquiry along.
Shortly after, I received a call from one of the programmers. He was in Moscow, Russia.
A couple of years ago I went to Ilam, Nepal with a group of engineering students associated with Engineers without borders. I was along as a professional survey mentor for their work. I returned home to Colorado and the students stayed on to continue their work. Fourth of July weekend I am setting up camp in Ouray Colorado for the holiday weekend when the cell phone in my pocket rings. It is one of the students calling from Ilam to ask a survey question. The call was as clear as any local call.
I talked to a surveyor friend of mine who was working in Saudi Arabia for Aramco back in 1998. There was a 7 second or so delay between our exchanges probably because of the distance and other factors.
