After playing around with this I think I've got it figured out, if anyone is interested.
This is what I did:
Exit SurvCE
Go to Start, Settings, Buttons
Here you can assign different funtions to the two white keys directly under the screen. My left key was assigned to SurvCE already, so I left that one alone.
Assign the right soft key to "Notes"
Key "OK" and exit
Now, no matter what program you are in, when you key the right soft key, you go directly to "Notes"
At the "Notes" window, key "Menu" and key "View Recording Toolbar"
From here, you can record and playback anytime. I had to increase the volume to be able to hear the playback.
Just close this window to go back to where you were.
