Still looking for people out there who worked with NGS and Built the Bilby towers back in the seventies, or before. I worked with Party G-20, as part of a state crew, in 1974,5 in Maine.
You mean one like this?
I know of one who did and he resides in western Virginia.
If anyone knows the location of a Bilby tower, Surveyors Historical Society would like to acquire one. We've conducted a fairly extensive search with no luck so far. Seems they were all sold for scrap but maybe there's one piled behind somebody's barn somewhere.

Try Gilbert Mitchell, still at NGS. He got his start there as a worker erecting Bilby Towers. There may still be some at the old instrument shop near Fredericksburg, VA.

Who is that Craig? (just curious... Dave Ingram?)
Carl
I think it was Steve Doughtie that told me his work on one. Do you know Steve?

Steve Douty
Yes, I do. He is in my chapter of the VAS. He works out of Buena Vista now, I believe. His nephew, Chris Pappas, practices here in Montgomery Co.
I'll have to ask him about it.
I saw one still standing at Cape Canaveral around 2005 or so. I doubt it is "for sale", though.
Maine DOT, who I worked for , had 5 at one time in storage, but that was years ago. Then,;-) you would have to find some of us old guys to erect it. Lots o luck. That was hard work, even back then.
