Hi everyone,

I am trying to install Ashtech Solutions on an old xp laptop without a download disc. I have downloaded the cd from the Ashtech ftp site, but when i try to install it I get a message "unable to find _SETUP.DLL, which is needed to complete the installation". Does anyone have or know where I can find the file I need, or is something else wrong? I've been looking through the ftp site, but nothing I have found seems to work. I would like to use Ashtech Solutions on my Windows 7 laptop, but I've been given the impression that it's not going to work.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Just for jollies I loaded A/S 2.7 on my Windows 7 Professional machine and it appears to work normally without any fussing around with settings on my part.

That said, this may be a good time to go to GNSS Solutions, for which the L1 version is free. The is a lot of similarity between many of the processes but probably a bit of heartburn figuring out a thing or two.

But after you get by that, there are some really nifty tools that GNSS Solutions has that A/S does not, the most powerful of which to me is the ability to mask crappy data without simply raising the mask angle on a particular baseline or excluding a satellite after processing.

There is also a VRS tool in GNSS Solutions that looks interesting but I have not had much opportunity to play with it.

Thanks, Jerry

I will definitely give that a try, but I can't seem to get the AS downloaded onto my laptop (either one of them).

I remember trying to download off the Ashtech website a year or so again, and it was very slow and kept crashing. Are you having the same problems? I eventually got GNSS solutions to work, but it seems like I had to restart the download a couple of times to get a usable file.

I haven't had any problems from the website, I just can't seem to get Ashtech Solutions installed. It's telling me there is a missing .dll file, but I downloaded everything I saw.

My main goal here, by the way is to be able to download the data from the Locus receivers. If I can do that with GNSS Solutions, that's great. I've just been trying to install Ashtech Solutions because it seems I can't download them with GNSS. If I'm wrong, I could sure use some input.

Thanks

I've had AS and GNSS install on Windows7, and I've never been able to get IR download to work in Windows7. Both Run fine as processing programs in windows 7, but Win7 does not seem to have the drivers/support for the IR cable. Also, I do not recall having the missing dll file error on the install..

My solution was to buy a used lap that had Windows XP on it and use it for Locus downloads, then transfer the files to my Win7 computer.

I screwed around with Windows7 and the Locus for at least 20 hours before giving up. If you have luck with Windows7, let me know, because I have given up.

Thanks, Pseudo

The XP laptop is what I've got in mind as well. I believe the missing .dll file is the only thing keeping me from getting it installed. I hope I'm right.

I ran a search on my XP laptop and I did not get a "_setup.dll" in the Ashtech Directory or anything else that appears to be associated with the processing software. It may be one of those files that gets deleted after install.

I found about 10 other "_setup.dll" files, of various sizes, that appear to be associated with other programs I have installed.

Is the GNSS Solutions software still available for free for L1-only use since Spectra Precision took over? I can't seem to find it on the website, though I didn't know to look for it back when this thread was started...

If not, would anyone be willing to share their previously free installation files? Please email. I have Promark2's for which the Ashtech Solutions 2.7 software still works, but I would appreciate newer software if it is more functional...

Thanks!

Dylan

This is the ashtech FTP site. Steve had a link below, but it doesn't appear to work for some reason.

Thank you, I did look through that site. The "Ashtech Solutions" folder appears to be the last version 2.7 which I have. Earlier in this thread there was mention of "GNSS Solutions" being available for free for L1-only use, and I haven't been able to find that on the site. I assume that's a more recent software package which doesn't fall under the "Older Products" category...

Yeah, you're right, you had to click "up one level" to get out of the older products directory, and GNSS is there.

I had trouble finding the latest version of GNSS Solutions, but found it on Ashtech's FTP site:

I may be a Johnny Come Lately to this thread, but my recollection is that your hopes of downloading Locus receivers with A/S 2.7 is going to be an exercise in futility, even if you find the missing file.

Reason being, by the time A/S 2.7 came out, they abandoned the Locus download capability in the download manager.

I believe that A/S 2.6 is the last version that that will do that.

We have A/S 2.6 here: Ashtech Solutions

Thanks for the post, Jerry. To my knowledge Ashtech Solutions (2.7) and GNSS Solutions (3.8) are two different software programs. Actually, I don't know anything about the former, only having worked with the latter. I don't presently have any interest in downloading A/S 2.7, nor do I have Locus receivers. I was just trying to post a helpful link for anyone that may be looking to download the latest version of GNSS Solutions. I had a hard time finding it myself.
