$15 of wallmart rechargeables and some solder. (there, I fixed it!)
that doesn't have the "earthy" feel of the wooden block....
IF you want quality, higher capacity rechargeable batteries, go to batteryspace.com
I have made some awesome packs!

Does your heart feel better now?
Have any problem getting the terminals hot enough, fast enough to solder without over heating the battery? I have done that using a bigger iron so I had minimum heat migration in the battery.

Yeah, I was going to inquire the same thing. I thought " 'ole fertile thighs" was gonna bust a blood vessel about that last "battery episode"
Have a great week! B-)
No problem soldering directly to the batteries w/ that iron. Just rough up the terminals w/ a file and make some scratches w/ a jackknife to make the solder stick. This is the 4th battery pack I have done with regular rechargable AA batteries (i.e. NO SOLDER TABS)
The last pack I did this this guy used the duracell 2450 MA-hours in his TOPCON CTS and the gun went most of the summer without recharging. I also used the 2450 duracells in my Nikon NPL 350 and they work pretty good although the NPL seems to use far more power than the old Topcon.
Thanks Perry, I'll try roughing up the terminals next time. Using the bigger iron I did get the job done, but roughing up the terminals makes sense.

Solder tabs would be the way to go but I couldn't find any that came close to 2450 mA-hr, but that TOPCON sips power anyway.
looks like the energizers I just installed are 2500 ma-hr according to google anyway.
