Congratulations man! I hope you are still enjoying your career.

We just kept the plumb bob string thrown over our shoulders into a pants pocket and attached to a belt loop. Someone had recently gotten their cord caught on a brush snag and lost their plumb bob. That was when the boss broke down and bought Gammon Reels for everybody.
I have a friend who still ducks when he sees me coming. He never liked gammon reels and always had his string tied around the plumb bob neck (when not in use). I don't know how many times I've slipped up behind him and cut the loop. He got me back for all of them one way or another.

It's probably not worth mentioning...but funny.
We use to prank each other by taking the little honey packets from KFC and carefully getting only a drop or two into the string hole of the gammon reel. Not too much and it will still work...kinda. It just gets your hands sticky and you can't figure out where it's coming from.
I may be an old fart, but...
I sure don't miss trying to run out a band (chain) across farmland with electric fencing.
I ( still ) think HP calculators are great.
Reflectorless edm is a boon, as is being able to shoot more than a mile to a single prism.
I love the accuracy and ease of use of digital levels.
Well today is my 15th Wedding Anniversary......who knew it would last this long....;)

1st., 2nd. or 3rd.?
One of those learn the hard way things. NEVER introduce your ONLY wife as your FIRST wife. She's put up with me for nearly 40 years now and I'm too old to be retrained so I guess she'll always be my first wife.

2nd....how did you know? I guess us old crusty surveyors can't have a woman stay around too long....:stakeout:
Been 40 years with this same company after a stint with the USFS along with a high school surveying & forestry program. The party chief with the USFS was surprised I already knew how to take level notes and balance the same. I remember the first day on the job here, we needed to tie a pipe and I got the 300' tape out of the truck when the party chief was placing a strange yellow contraption in a box and said we got the distance (????????).
I've been solo(ish) since 1985, prior to that it's too complicated to get into.
But I did spend quite a few years with the USFS (which is where I started in 1968).
Got my first license in January of 1979, and several more later.
Pretty much Mineral (or Mineral Survey) related since 1976 (including a period as a US Mineral Surveyor in the early 1980s)
What a long strange trip it's been.

I remember on the old board many years ago that you mentioned having crossed paths or beers with Ed. Abbey ...but it wasn't a big deal or something like that.

Yeah...I spent a year or two down in the Moab-Blanding-Hanksville area back in the mid-late 70s. Uranium exploration and such, worked with several "characters" from the book (The Monkey Wrench Gang), and frequented the same bars/cafes as Abbey (same time, but not together for obvious reasons).
Now Those were some INTERESTING times to say the least 😉

Congrats Loyal! 21 for me and still learning everyday.
Congrats Mr. Berry on 15 years of wedded bliss. I have lasted longer with number two than with number one, so each anniversary is a first at whatever number it is. Roughly 14 with number one and up to 18+ with number two. Getting to an age where number three, if there ever were to be one, probably wouldn't have to endure my company for so many years.
That's great Loyal. You're going for at least 50, Right!
I'm just glad I've known ya for about the last 12 years and thanks for all the help and advice. Time flies and it seems to speed up as we go along.
