It isn't common in our area for the site to be covered with snow for so long we can't map the utilities or parking stripes. I was at a seminar years ago which Gary Kent presented and he had a note about snow days on the ALTA. I looked through the standards but didn't see any standard note for snow, anybody out there faced with the same problem and has a standard note they use I can plagiarize? Thanks
SNOW / ICE NOTE:
An average of 4 inches of snow cover remained on site during the time that the field locations portion of this survey were performed. Except, however the open southwest portion of the parking lot located was relatively clear. Although, the perimeters of the edge of parking lots were covered with 3 to 4 feet deep piles of plowed snow, making the precise locations and identifications of the type of edge of pavement or curb lines difficult. Also, the edge of the curb lines and the sidewalk locations along XYZ Street were covered with packed snow and ice.
Looks great, thanks.
I like to keep my notes simple:
"At the time of the field survey there was snow and ice onsite, therefore all utilities, parking striping, and surface features may not be shown."
Due to snow cover over this site at the time of the field survey, the nature and extent of various surface features may have been obscured.
You could put some of the snow-covered areas in a "Revision Cloud"along with a note. We average 110" of snow/yr here, and generally just refuse to perform some elements during snow cover.
Typically for us if they want the actual locations of the utilities and such we put the price of snow removal in the price and let them know it will be easier once the snow is gone. Very so often they go with the option of waiting for no snow, so we end up digging out curbs and then plowing parking lots and such.
Due to the 1 and 1/2 inches of snow we had on (date) no work was performed for the next 7 days. (grin)

Thinking back to my years in the snow belt along Lake Michigan, it would be nearly impossible to do a reasonably accurate ALTA with all of the standard details from late October to about mid-April. Removing the 15'-20' high mountain of packed snow from relative small parking lots would be a piece of cake compared to the 40+ feet high mountain ranges of packed snow in large mall complexes. It would be double work. You would need to move it out of the way and then put it all back where you found it.
