A Years Worth of 100s Already

Everybody be careful out there. Drinking water and wearing sunscreen doesn't make you wimp no matter what Ted says...:-@
What about hiding in the a/c?
I mowed PART of my yard earlier today - after a cold shower
and a gatoraid I still don't feel right. Definitely not
hungry. Think it is nap time.
Thursday in NC was tough , staked all day and was not feeling OK until today . First time this year I thought I might have heat stroke . On Friday my vision was not ok , did half a day in the field anyway and finally today I feel better .
Today cut the grass picked the Garden enjoying so get to enjoy green beans , fried okra and Zucchini . Cold beer .
110 on the front porch - in the shade
And that is why we are indoors.
Might head out to the casino to help them with their electricity bill - lol.
(They keep that place mighty cold.)
My wife was kind enough to higher a "lawn boy".
Yeah it is pretty doggone hot down here in D/FW area and dry as a bone. A lot of wild fires over here west of Ft. Worth where I live.
I have a bad case of raccoon eyes (from wearing sunglasses), and my bald spot got sun burned.
I am so happy I no longer have to get the red half-circle on the forehead sun tattoo. I don't know how many years I lived with that surveyor nerd stigma.

Those sports drinks are purely a gimmick!
Stick to drinking cool, not cold or iced water.
At end of day mulch half a mouthful of port or sherry for 30 seconds in mouth and spit out . Will clean mouth and rejuvenate taste buds and appetite. Also good then to have a couple of glasses of water before two cold beers....

Drinking just water while working hard in the heat (as we often do) will lead to hyponatremia. You do need electrolytes. I am astonished at the amount of liquids I consume during the day, including Gatorade, just to keep going.
Our local temps today. Just brutal so I spent much of it in the pool.
Of course this evening I spent it working the door for our Roller Derby Ladies team. It was nice a cool in the coliseum and it does come with perks.
Lot's of flying parts during the match though.
112 in Lawton, OMG!! I would melt completely. Going to DC next week and I am fretting over the forecast 95 with humidity. Guess you don't walk to the T-bird with an ice cream cone. Do people use the auto remote starts like we do in the northland to warm up cars in the winter without going out to them, so they can do the same and have the AC cool it down? Brutal...
I don't have a remote starter but I am now using oven mitt's when I drive during the day.
To funny... Oven mitts to open the door, or that and drive too.... Sounds like a photo op.
Your Tux needs a beerleg logo as an official sponsor.....
Come on Wendell and Angel... Come to Deral's worthy cause...
Who knows all his gals could wear Beerleg stencils as apart of the sponsorship...

The only upside of the higher temps can be easily seen at this mornings car wash put on by the Darkside Derby Ladies.
For some reason they had no problem getting traffic to pull in.
They did a wonderful job on the Harley but they even had off duty ambulance crews stopping.

And even the ones not washing drew some attention. (at least from me).
Now, of course our stock cars were also running tonight. I could have had stale beer and a mouth full of dust. I think I made the right decision.
Dearl,
¿You say this isn't "surveying" but I notice you are making several, "repeated observations"?

Dearl,
They gotta have someone help who understands curves..
Bruce,
Good point! Many do not realize the seriousness of hydration in extreme environments. Most folks are under hydrated to begin with. Just water consumption alone can do as you say, leading to" hyponatremia" (flushing a body of electrolytes). Also I caution all to stay away from the Red Bull/Rock Star type "power drinks" while operating in very warm temperatures.
I love "Gatorade" but simply maintaining good hydration with just water alone and consuming HEALTHY MEALS throughout the day can maintain an appropriate level of electrolytes. That being said, I always carry a few mini packets of Gatorade drink mix anyway.
"Being safe" includes monitoring oneself (not the most reliable method) as well as "co-workers keeping an eye on each other". It has been my experience that those who slip into a "heat casualty situation" often do so very quickly with minimal warning symptoms.
Please forgive me for "jumping your post" but heat injuries is a subject near to my heart. I want to emphasize the importance preparing for warm weather operations in advance by good hydration and diet, days beforehand! Simply "carrying and consuming more water" at the last minute is not an effective strategy for operating in extreme heat.
Heat injuries can be (are) life threatening and can occur suddenly. I caution everyone to take the matter very seriously!

As it has been at or above 100 here for the last 2 months, Being a solo surveyor is not a wise thing to do.
I hired a summer helper and it sure makes things almost bearable in the heat.
Stay safe!!
