A Facebook history group place this picture on their wall today. It is a picture of Thomas Wigglesworth (3-22-1905 to 1-21-2000). When I was 12 or 13, my Dad and I ran a traverse around his property (~50 acres?). This was before EDMs and data collection. We used a one minute transit and a 200' steel tape. It was the only time I ever heard of a client specifically asking for copies of the field notes instead of having us draw a plat. He took the notes and calculated the traverse, drawing his own map when complete. Of course, it was for his personal use and was never sealed by a surveyor and recorded. A few weeks ago, we surveyed a large tract that was one of his adjoiners and I told the crew that story. I'm not sure they believed me. It IS an unusual story. I wish I had a copy of his map and/or field notes to compare with our "modern" traverse.
I would really like to know more about this Wigglesworth person.
That photo seems to say so much, but, of course, it's just a portrait, a pose.
I could only hope to look so cool ( not the right word; what is the right word? ) with a hat and cigarette, although I've sported both.
Is there more to tell?

A few quick searches produced "A resolution commending Thomas Wigglesworth." I think the Georgia House of Representatives passed a resolution honoring him in March of 1997. If he is the same gentleman it makes it an even better story.
Yeah, he has that Steve McQueen "cool". 🙂
I thought I was seeing this guy's brother:
His name is Oppenheimer, BTW.
Here ya go, Gabby Hayes 😉
Crank it up!
Have a great weekend.

If I am not mistaken, it is one and the same.
B-) :good:
