Is there a pdf somewhere of a 4000 user guide and an osm user guide? does anyone know if a osm model 20669-00 can be used with both the sse/ssi model recrs for downloading?

Yes, I have that same model and I use it for both my sse's & ssi. I scanned the user manual, here's a link Trimble OSM2 Manual.
Edit: Print the pages on the front and back of a single sheet, fold left to right and you'll have an exact copy of the original.

I can't recall the differences betwen them although I think the 4000SSi added RTK support and additional memory among other stuff):
