I just got switched from an old computer with Win 7 on it. I never had a problem downloading my collectors before. Now with the new computer running Windows 10, Windows Mobile Device Center won't work even though it's one of the programs bundled under start. A click on it brings either nothing at all or a short splash screen that quickly disappears. It won't run. Any ideas? Thanks. Yes, I rebooted.

As I recall, a registry hack is required to make WMDC work with latter builds of Win10.?ÿ I don't recall the steps I followed -- mine works fine now -- but I found this on the web:

?ÿ

Open the command line as an administrator and run these two commands:

REG ADD HKLMSYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesRapiMgr /v SvcHostSplitDisable /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f

REG ADD HKLMSYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesWcesComm /v SvcHostSplitDisable /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f

After that, reboot your PC/laptop and the Windows Mobile device center should work again.

I personally don't see the advantage of using the glitchy WMDC.?ÿ I just use Microsoft's Windows Explorer and transfer files that way.

My Carlson Surveyor+ isn't recognized as a drive by Windows unless I go through WMDC.?ÿ Then I can access it via Explorer?ÿ and use standard transfer methods.

Related question...Until recently I had a Trimble TSC2 that would connect to my desktop running windows 7 Pro. I use Total Commander on the desktop (one of the absolutely essential programs I use very frequently), which has an add-on to connect to a winCE device (through WMDC) and it would make it appear as another drive. That made it easy to upload and download files from the TSC2.

The TSC2 recently died (pretty much so, still works but not completely). So, I bought a TSC3. The TSC2 had one of the big square USB ports, I think it was called a USB B-Type. The TSC3 has a USB A-type and a USB mini-B.?ÿ

But, when I connect the TSC3 to the desktop (through the USB mini-B), it is not recognized by WMDC. Any tips on what I need to do to connect the TSC3 to WMDC. As I mentioned, I am running Windows 7 not Windows 10.?ÿ
