Where Do I Start Learning How to Overlay Drawing on Google Earth Image?

I don't know if 2006 offered that option. I did a quick search and didn't find anything. I am not very familiar with Carlson, but if memory serves?ÿme, most of the interaction with google earth came around about 2012.

You can use google earth pro and download a high-quality image to import. You will need to scale it after you import it. Before I had the ability to bring it in, scaled, I'd just use building corners zoomed in on google earth and the measure tool and use that to scale the image. It's not perfect but very close.

Other than that, I'm not sure how else to do it if you don't have the function in Carlson. I have CAD-Earth for my Autocad Civil 3D 2012but I don't know if it is compatible with Carlson 2006.

I use AutoCAD Civil 3D 2018, I just type in KML and selection the lines I want, it works best to use a line thickness default or 0.0. The older versions would take you right to where the overlay is on Google Earth, however with the newer version you have to find the overlay on Google Earth.?ÿ

I am sure there is a better way to do this, this is just the way I know.

I had the same question awhile back. Nobody on here had a good method. Carlson had a slick routine that went right to Google Earth and you clipped the area you wanted. My Carlson rep told me Google Earth had changed their format of images however, so this routine no longer works. I've not tried to do it lately to see if it's been fixed.

Google earth accepts .shp files now.?ÿ If you can figure out how to export a shp file from carlson it will import directly to google earth.?ÿ Keep in mind you will need to be on Grid for the data to come in correctly.

If your job is rotated into state plane, you can create polylines on Google Earth, export to kml and use gpsvisualizer.com to convert kml to a lat long point file to import into your drawing.

The site should be easy to follow. It is free and I have compared the tracings to data provided by the state. I would not recommend doing this for critical locations, but it works for scaling in environmentally inaccessible areas.

I had Plexearth but it turned out when you bought it the license was only good for a year and you had to buy it again.

With CAD-Earth, you buy it, you own it. After the year you have the option to upgrade but it is not required.

Plexearth just stops working completely when the year is up.
