What software do you use to extract features from a point cloud? Mainly urban and suburban environments. Surfaces are easy, but what about things like light posts, signs, curbs, utilities, etc?

You can also bring pointclouds fairly easy into Autocad, Civil 3D etc. (newer versions) works fairly well depending on what you want to do.

I've used both Polyworks and Topodot. I've found Topodot to be the most user friendly of the 2. It works on top of Microstation or Powersurvey.
I have found Topodot has a lot of powerful feature extraction utilities. It also has an automatic feature identification routine in addition to manual feature identification. It will place cells/objects at locations of identified features (called "assets"). I've found it to be very powerful as to its variety of data extraction techniques.
