I might have been a little hasty about Dave's search for the sky mapping software. The first link is the one to avoid from download366.com
That was the animal that nailed me.
About the 3rd one down comes from sourceforge.com and seems legit so far.

It took some searching to be rid of that other nasty bass turd but I kept getting popups from "ads from password" and fortunately it's well known and removal was fairly painless - except for the 3 reboots or so. My popup blocker was on so I knew immediately something was amiss. Then it completely changed the look of this site and all others. I was NOT a happy camper!

But as is well again in the neighborhood as Mr. Roger's might wont to say.

Just be ware.
E

BIG warning...

OK... so I might have not been so hasty.
I've ended with about 10 programs installed and all are seriously INvasive in that they have changed not only my default browser and but also its settings.

I've manage to be rid of those but am still looking 2 system services I know for a fact are not legit. Now I'm righteously p..sssed off.
arrrrggggghhhh

My sincere apologies

I've put it on 4 different computers in the last few years - most recently a couple months ago - and never ran into that kind of stuff. I guess I was lucky to have picked the right one.

Unfortunately, some people will take legitimate freeware programs, infect them with all sorts of nonsense, then host them for download as if they were the authors. Not sure if that's the case here, but I have run into that before. You might be able to find a clean copy, somewhere, but it's risky.

My sincere apologies

None needed Dave. Part of the fault is on me not paying attention to the download source. I got the "good one" at sourceforge.com which I am well aware of. The first one that came back in the search results was the "bad one".
I already have it installed and running... now just need to figure out how to use it.

I'm surprised the nastiness got through like it did. I've got a hard firewall, software firewall and scanning software plus popup blocker and I still got nailed. Super nasty!!!

As brother RADU and our other brothers and sisters from "down under" would say "no worries Mate."
E.
