I've used C&G for the last 25 years and I have it on Window XP and it still works but I would like another software to run on 64 bit window 11.

I do construction layout so I need to create a coordinate system to download/upload into a field calculator.?ÿ I need to be able to click on curb, storm, building, etc layers from the cad-files sent to me by the engineer to create a coordinate file.?ÿ I currently use .asc file to download into my HP 48.?ÿ?ÿ

Most all the cad-files sent to me these days have rectangles with the text "AcDbMLeader (ACDB_MLEADER_CLASS)" showing up instead of text or inserts like manholes so I think most are created in new cad-file 3D but i'm not sure.?ÿ So the new software must be able to recognize these new file.

I currently use autocad 2007 since I primarily use C&G DOS from 1995.?ÿ?ÿ

Anyone can tell me a good software to look into hopefully similar to C&G DOS?

C&G DOS

@learner I'll look into it since I'm always worried about my C&G going down.?ÿ I even take the dongle cards to the storm shelter in case my house blows away.

I don't know C&G.?ÿ But I tell everyone to buy Carlson, because it tries to be compatible with everything else.

I see that it even has a routine to convert Carlson points to/from C&G points.

You should download and try the demo and see if it'll work for you.?ÿ I don't work for Carlson, by the way

I didn't use C&G, but there is a whole menu of C&G options in Carlson, so it might be that you would be able to jump right in and get up to speed pretty quickly.

You could ask your clients (or a fellow surveyor) if they could export the drawing in autocad format. It takes like 3 clicks and it will essentially explode all the civil 3D objects into basic autocad objects. You shouldnƒ??t get much grumbling, if any, from this request.?ÿ

ps I love that your still running this program in 2022.?ÿ

If you do take a look at Carlson you should try the CG_OPEN_DOS_PL1 command... it lives in the menus somewhere _shrug_

It will import the graphics from the CG-DOS PL1/2 files and add data to the lines and points so they retain the association to the points CRD file.

I setup aliases TT NN and II to run the CG traverse , inverse and intersects commands from command line.

I also tried a program called TraversePC that I really enjoyed working with. In the end I realized that as much as I enjoyed working with the traverses (point groups plus definition data) I really wanted the CAD environment for making my plans. If not for that I would have stuck with it. Loved that I could see defining data for most points in the project.

Thanks for the help.?ÿ I download ProgeCAD 2022 and it worked to get rid of the squares even though when I open it up in autocad 2007 which I like it says the drawing has over 600 errors??ÿ Not sure what the errors are but it now shows the proposed utility structures, text and lines I was looking for.?ÿ?ÿ

Since I only calculate field points for staking from construction cad-file given to me I've decided to continue to work in CG Dos since it does everything I need.?ÿ I was worried about my printer dongle going out but if I can find CGSurvey 9, 18 or 19 I wont need the dongle anymore.?ÿ Anyone have one of these three programs and don't use it anymore please message me.

@briarcutter Thanks for the info.?ÿ I'll see if they have a dongle or bypass to use my C&G SU data program.?ÿ I don't need a pc since I love building my own but you got me thinking that they might stop selling pc parts to build xp.?ÿ Then the parts will go up just like the HP48GX and smi cards.

Off topic, but if you want run old versions AutoCad/LDD etc. This works...

For the record, I've got a copy of Land Desktop 3 running on my Win11 laptop. No special software needed. I believe that I loaded it in an XP compatability mode?ÿ?ÿ

@norman-oklahoma?ÿ

I donƒ??t mess with compatibility modes anymore. Us old farts have to watch our blood pressure. And besides, every time Iƒ??ve tried it I screw up something else and end up having a temper tantrum and beat up the keyboard. ?????ÿ
