I'm using Carlson Survey 2011 and on a couple of different drawings they automatically change to "read only". It may happen when I email them, I'm not sure.

Is there a option I can't find to stop the drawings from changing to write protected?

Thank you,
Forrest

Are you trying to open a drawing that is already open? Autocad will open the file again as read only if its already open or thinks it is. Maybe the lock file wasn't deleted when the files was closed last.

No I made sure it wasn't open.

Stranger yet is when I go to the file properties, the "read only" is unchecked.

not sure what's going on.

You might try saving them under new name ( a back up), then open the new file. I've got that to work in large networks, where another co-worker had the job open.

I have a fresh install of ACAD 2006 on my XP and it does the same thing to files that are created from another program. I am locked out of any commands that will make any changes to the layers.

The ones saved and created by 2006 open normally and all commands are available.

Would like to know what is up myself.

Are you storing your files on a backup drive? I had a portable hard drive that would do this.

Probably another Carlson 2011 bug. I'm waiting for 2012 to come out w/ embedded autocad and was told that they do not even start testing the Survey w/ autocad until a month after the release...which seems to be what happened with 2011. Six months of people testing it and reporting bugs then they fix them just in time for the next release.
