My mobile phone of several years finally decided it was ready for retirement and I had no choice but to purchase a new one. As I am trying to re-load some of my previous apps, I wondered what apps are out there that I have not been taking advantage of?
So I ask the RPLS Community, what are the phone apps you feel are must haves on your devices? Please specify operating systems (Apple, Android or Windows).
I will start (running Android):
- OneNote - My #1 must have, lets me stay in touch with my lists and many other miscellaneous notes
- Outlook - keeps me in touch with my office email and calendar
- The Weather Channel - quick weather checks, there are others that I am looking into switching over in the future
- ConvertPad - amazing unit options
- Droid 48 - I have a lot of trouble using a non-HP calculator anymore
- Bubble Level - quick and easy for home projects, NOT work
How about everyone else??
Apple iOs
Thodolite... camera app that stamps pics with lat/long... AND does a lot more. check it out, very powerful app.
dropbox a must have.
FindAControl taps into NGS data and maps in real time position.
1010! when I need a break
I don't pull my phone out at work much but when I do its when I am on my knees in the brush searching (or finding) a corner. I use the flashlight option mostly because go figure its usually dark and rainy here but I also use a compass app, metal detector app, and altimeter but that is mostly for fun. Acrobat is a very helpful app I find.
Android. Work only.

I used to use VMware Horizon Client to access my virtual desktop from my phone and iPad. 24-7 access to my servers and run any software of my office through the virtual desktop

DWG Fastview
My Windows HTC One phone bit the dust a couple of months ago. Not many fancy apps but had what I needed and with the current version (10) you can run like a full PC. Unfortunately Microsoft just killed Windows Mobile. I've been using an older Android HTC One and I really can't figure out how they won the race. Sure they have lots of apps, most of which seem to poorly written, but the general interface is far less than the Microsoft. Also, it seems like every app demands access to all of my data. On Apple and Microsoft I could pick and choose. I see no reason my calculator app needs access to my contacts and location.

I recently bought a Samsung Tab A 2016 model with S Pen. It's quite a device, and very capable with Microsoft Office.
They need protection though.
Surveying isn't smartphone territory when it comes to their safekeeping.
