Hi,
I want to know what everybody else is using for remote access.
Situation : laptop in the office with a few dongles, all my software is on it, files on external drives and NAS

What i want to do : look at files from a different laptop or tablet in the field, upload survce files to proces and look at the raw measurement. Connection through cell-hone (tethering). Leave this laptop at the office as i'm scared to lose all my dongles (worth a few 1000's).

I don't want to draw a complete survey but for checking stuff, looking up phone numbers, pdf files,...

Is teamviewer the best choice for this or do you guys use other software. It also has to be secure.

Greetings,
Lieven

Have you considered virtual usb dongles? They will not write you a program for anything that you are not licensed to run, but it is a program that will run and "emulate" your dongle. This way you can lock your dongles up in a safe place to prevent loss, damage, or theft.

I recently found out about this, and Robert at Safekey was able to help me out with a damaged dongle. It may be an option.

Good luck,
Jimmy

I use google remote desktop. It gives me full access to the computer, sometimes I'll log in and send prints to the plotter so they are ready by the time I get to the office among other things. Only drawback I've found is it's best to set your display to a single monitor when leaving the office.

logmein can use dual monitors, you just press a button to switch back and forth between them

logmein.com

dropbox.com

Both have worked very well for me for many years now.

teamviewer works great for me. You have to get the codes and set it up so you can remote access without getting approval, but it will let you do anything you need (switching monitors, etc.). Even have a app to access with. I used to use logmein till they required me to pay for a subscription.

I'm testing Teamviewer and next week logmein.

@Scotland : do you use it (non commrcial and don't run into problems? What about encryption? Isn't this better when you pay for one license?

@Jimmy : the dongle idea looks great but i'm going to work from a netbook with a cell-phone connection in the field. I'm not installing autocad (except trueview) on it.

Greetings
