The "Think you know Autocad" thread got me to thinking. What are most everyone using nowadays? Post up, share what you use, and why you use it. Heck, it may be helpful for some who are in the market for new software.
CAD R14
Softdesk
Old school baby... B-)
If that is what you are comfortable with then when you are ready for an upgrade, your best choice will be Carlson Survey with embedded AutoCAD. Best fit for your budget, software compatibility and the easiest learning curve.
My 2 cents. B-)
Carlson Survey 2008 with embedded Autocad.
I wast thinking very hard about upgrading, but after hearing all of the 2014 issues people are having, I am starting to think about staying with my 2008. I don't have any trouble with it at all.
C3D 2012
ACAD Raster Design 2012
Microstation V8i (with multiple state DOT workspaces)
Leica GeoOffice 8.2
StarNet V7
SDC Survey
I only posted the thread because I was angered by the marketing tactic. Can people also add how much CAD they think they know?
C3D 2014
CARLSON 2014

Bentley MicroStation V7 w/ EaglePoint
I've got V8i on a couple of seats, but it won't work with EaglePoint (!$%&*)
Microstation V8i
Inroads V8i

FWIW - Our CAD Manager is a C3D Gunslinger1 and we ALWAYS stay two years behind on versions...just sayin'
1Each year Autodesk invites a group of customers to an event they call Gunslingers. These invited power users are expected to test features, do their best to break things, and put as much stress on the software as they can.
MicroSurvey EmbeddedCAD
Perfect cogo on top of AutoCAD
Inexpensive, full featured, good support
Gzr
Trimble/Autodesk
What?
Infrastructure Design Ste Premium 2015, Access, and TBC
Why?
"Too much" is always better than not enough.
C3D09, migrating to 13 soon. Data is processed in Starnet, LGO, Topcon Magnet, TBC or Carlson.
Autocad R12 with Softdesk is what I really like, lightning stopped that.
Carlson Survey CES has taken over where that left off.

I do not plan on upgrading for at least 2 years, so I will be in the same position eventually.
I asked about the % because most people do not realize how much CAD will do. I had a drafter who claimed 30% knowledge. I would estimate she has 5% knowledge. When I tried to explain PSLTSCALE, a light went off in her head and she exclaimed 'So that is why you surveyors mess up plans all the time'. She did not last much longer...
There is not enough room in my brain for more autocad without losing something else.

Just because I have the software doesn't mean I use it.
95% of the time I'm using:
Outlook
Word
Excel
Project
Vision
Internet Explorer
LDD 2003
How much CAD do I know? Just enough to be dangerous.
We make most use of

AutoCad Lt 2014
Civil3d 2013 with no problems at all. Will be installing 2015 any day now.

Microstation V8i SS3 and only because DOTs require it. I hate this program with a passion!
Microstation V8i and InRoads SS3
This is the most powerful software in my opinion, when you know how to use. But it does have a large learning curve. I've been using Microstation and InRoads for 21 years. So I am a bit biased.
I also use Carlson TakeOff v7, for building 3D Machine Control surfaces. But I am constantly jumping between both CAD's to use the best tools available in each. They actually play well together Microstation will open/save in native DWG format.
I'm currently test Topcons Magnet Office and Site application. Looks to be powerful, with many tools. The work flow is a bit odd.

I started with AutoCAD 2001 and was taught using the command line method. When I used Microstation for a bit, it drove me thoroughly nuts having to attempt to decipher tiny icons when a couple well placed letters in the command line would have done quite well otherwise.....
Not my own boss, not in surveying, but using AutoCAD LT at this time.
Autocad 2014 on subscription, with Carlson Survey 2014 running on top, along with my own lisp customizations.
I've been using Autocad since the mid 1980s, so it's unlikely I'll be changing that anytime soon.
