@big-al

I had the same issue as Rundatline. Purchased some refills on amazon and had to repalce the printhead about a month later.

I also have a DesignJet T120. I would say that I have had problems with ink clogging. I have generally used cheap cartridges though. Recently, I replaced the print head (for the second time) and with the new HP ink cartridges installed was impressed how good the prints were. Now that I’ve begun replacing the OEM cartridges with the cheap/remanufactured cartridges, the problems with streaky prints and clogging have resumed.

I’m inclined based on reports of others to start using only HP cartridges and see if that improves things.

Thanks for the help.

Al

Have started buying canon printers and copiers but have not tried a Canon plotter yet.

Bought a nice Canon printer (first time customer) with scanner for my personal computer a few years ago.?ÿ Barely used it and one day I went to print something and an error popped up on the screen and it wouldn't let me do anything.?ÿ Googled the error and there were all kinds of threads and discussions about this malfunction.?ÿ I thought well, at least if I can scan things onto a flash drive (it had a port on the front) I can take the scans elsewhere and have them printed but nooooo this error blocked you from doing ANYTHING with the machine.?ÿ Instant paperweight with brand new ink cartridges.?ÿ I was so pissed.?ÿ Canon instantly lost me as a customer for life with this garbage printer.

@bstrand

such as shame, we have an old 11 x 17 HP laserjet that just keeps chugging along. The new HP's, not so much

Seems like everything new we get is garbage including the larger plotters compared to the older machines they replaced.

We have a Designjet T930 that is only about a year old. Not impressed with this machine overall.

I bought an Epson SC-T3470 to replace my DesignJet 450C after ink cartridges for the latter became generally unavailable.?ÿ I don't run a lot of plots -- mostly mylars for recording -- but so far the Epson has worked very well.?ÿ It's much faster than the HP and produces even sharper prints.?ÿ And I don't need a cable connection, it operates over WiFi (though a cable connection will work, too).

I began with Epson and was sold on their ability to fine print with such quality a 0.03 lettering was easily read.

They could not be turned off for any length of time or the print heads would stop up and living in podunk end of the road where that happened often and took as long as a month to have power again.

Nobody local knew anything about fixing or servicing them and customer service did not really exist that well 25yrs ago. All I got was that they could send me the electrical ribbon and ink and that was all or spend $50 shipping plus $xxx labor to send in.

They were cheaper to buy and after three I got a Brother all in one and I have not been able to set it to make the fine lines and type quality prints unless I am printing something that came thru this site.

Still looking for that magic setting.
