New HP Plotter

It's the new way of delivering technical jargon to the layperson, like what's labeled on my bedroom aircon unit:

What freaks me out is that I work in a country where it's 30degC and humid, and they're called aircon, but in my home country where the max temp is around 25degC during summer, exactly the same thing is called a "heat pump". I can't handle that - if I'm cold I'd buy a heater, and if I'm hot and sweaty I'd buy an aircon. I hope this helps the OP.

But it wasn't called a "heater," it was called a "heat pump," and it pumps heat OUT of your house.?ÿ Technically correct, but I agree not my preferred term.?ÿ Around here a "heat pump" is used in the winter to pump heat from the ground into a house.

I thought that's what it might be. About 10 years ago I was tasked with getting a block of 4 small vacant shop buildings up to scratch for lease and at that time it was summer and stinking hot inside them so I made a few inquiries about getting aircon installed. One salesman met me on site and he was keen to sell and as we stood there discussing this and that, dripping with sweat, he only said heat pump, and I only said aircon. Anyway he showed me some brochures, and some numbers, and then a file full of hand-written testimonials, of which he read three or four, and they all said he was top-hole. Although the pen color was different between them, it was quite obvious that the hand writing was the same, and the lined-pages had come from the same student exercise book. Then I knew I was correct about it being an aircon.

Thanks. Sort of what I suspected. Hard to make non-surveyors understand what I'm talking about at times. Always rubs me the wrong way when people who don't know something resort to trying to baffle me with their bull$hit. Why is it so hard for some people to just say, "I don't know, I'll find out for you.'
