My HP large format plotter died. I bought a new large format Epson, and it is terrible. If I don't use it almost everyday, the ink jets clog, and I have to go through the print head cleaning routine, which is lengthy. The Epson print head cleaning process uses more ink that I use plotting. I am going to junk my Epson, never to buy another one again.
Do the lower-end (under $5,000) E-size plotters produced nowadays clog up badly if they go a week without running. I never really had that problem before with my old one, but it was 8 years old before it died. Has technology worsened?
What any of you recommend for a plotter that doesn't plot everyday?
I plan to use it for color aerial photographs and line drawings.
Thanks for any input!

How often do you use it? Do the inkjets clog?
Timely post.
I'm looking at the Canon 24" Plotter - IPF670. How about reliability? Anybody have the Canon Plotters?
Never had a clogging problem. Not used daily sometimes will go a week or two sometimes 200 plots a week but we have had it 6 years now and just had to replace the head that takes a lot of ink and something went wrong with the PC touch screen it's hooked up to. I do not know if the standalone plotter without the scanner would need the PC attached. I think the plot quality is very good
What I would suggest to anyone looking for a new plotter if you have the option lease it for a year then you will have a good idea if you like the plotter.
I have had a Canon Plotter with scanner attechwd for at least 2 years and never had a problem with it clogging when it sits for a week.
The only problem we have had is with communication to the add on scanner that requires us to reboot that computer.
So far our HP T2530 is working out pretty good as a plotter. Scanner is pretty decent, but lacks even the most basic tools found on dedicated scanners. It's color, so it has that going for it.
I think if you have something to trade in, the price is right around $5,000 I think. They are wanting to get the 1055 plotters out of service. You could probably buy a used one for a couple hundred and use it as a trade in...be wary someone has not already done this because HP keeps track of the serial numbers.
Otherwise it may be outside your budget.
36" wide color plotter/copier/scanner.
There are zero problems with jets clogging up and the ink dries instantly on mylar.
