I'm looking for an easier way to add additional points to my control file. I might add 5 or 6 points one day, then start a new job the next day, and would like the points acquired previously added to the control file. The current method I use is to write out the .rw5 to my cad software, edit the points, then export the whole thing to an ascii file, then in SurvCE, import the ascii file, save it as a CRD; then chose that CRD as the new control file. It works, but is a bit tedious and I can't do it exclusively on the DC.
I've tried exporting to an ascii file from SurvCE, but all it exports are the points in the job file, not those in the control file. I know I could then just bring them into the new job via import ascii, but then they'd be in the new job file, not the control file. That might not really matter, as I'm not adjusting any of the points between sessions, so my use of the "control" file might be irrelevant.
Is there any real problem with adding the additional points to each new job file until I get an opportunity to dump to CAD and start over by saving out a new ascii with all the points? Using this method, does it matter which file (job or control), the points are in?
Is there an easier way to move points from job to control files strictly using only SurvCE?
I have difficulty understanding why you are asking such a question at this point in time. What exactly has your self teaching taught you over the years?

It's a software question; not a surveying question, Sir. I've seen many such questions in this forum on Autocad, Magnet, Carlson (and SurvCE for that matter), asked by folks with vast surveying knowledge and experience, yet for some reason they don't merit such a question as yours to me.
As for mine: I've read the SurvCE manual (several times), and it does not address the issue. It could be that WinCE "cut and paste" might be a solution, but I've never found a way to access WinCE OS commands from within SurvCE, and don't even know if it's possible.
Isn't there a filter option when you export points. Haven't used survce in a while and was left stuck in V2. Must be available in v5. not?
You can filter which point numbers you want to export.

I don't think that option is available. I too am stuck at Version 2.
Maybe it's time to upgrade. I'm waiting die v6 for hybrid functionality

Software question I cannot answer.
I use SMI and have never had a problem, adding, deleting or merging files. I can set up over points in 1 file, stake to points in a second file and store any new points in a third file, if I want. In order to maintain sanity however I work in only one file at a time.
If I understand your question correctly, if you move points they are deleted from the source, which is what a move command typically does. Copy command should leave points in place while also putting them someplace else.
BTW, Carlson puts on excellent training programs where you typically can learn much more than is in the Manual.
