Last night on the news I saw a report about Microsoft offering a FREE app that includes excel. I downloaded it this morning and it appears the only way of loading a file is from the cloud. Researching it further it appears the app it useless without a subscription to Office 360.
I'm hoping someone more savvy with apps and office can explain this in terms us country boys can understand.
All I want to do is be able to view/edit/create excel spreadsheets on an android phone. Mostly repetitive task, right now it's staking driveway pipes based on existing ditch and proposed front slope calculations. I can handle the spreadsheet. It's getting the app to work that I'm having problems with.
Thanks,
James
I'm already late getting to the job. Will be back after dark.
I am waiting on WordPerfect to get on the right tract.
Their app will let you receive and open a wpd file for viewing only at a cost of $14.99.
For free I can convert everything to pdf and view.
I want an app to be able to make or correct a wpd file.
I had Kingston Office on my rooted Nook Color, and it was okay for small tasks. You might want to check it out.
Microsoft Office App/google drive

I have a subscription to Office 360. It's basically a subscription to use the latest version of the complete suite of Office products...Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.
I don't use their cloud service though (I think it's called "SkyDrive"). All the Excel spreadsheets I use are local on my machine. I don't think it's a requirement that you must store your files on their "cloud" server, which would mean that if you don't have access to the internet, you wouldn't have access to your files...that certainly wouldn't work for me.
I'm not sure about Android, but I know that my subscription lets me use the software on my laptops (both windows and mac) as well as my iPhone. No complaints so far (except for the price).
SkyDrive is correct. Win 8.1 automatically hooked me up to it. Not that I use it.
Have you looked at OfficeSuite 8?
It really depends on your use, but I am a very satisfied customer with Office 365. Being able to install on up to 5 devices is great, and I have really embraced the OneDrive integration of the Office software. I can work with a spreadsheet, or word document, etc, on my desktop, tablet, or phone and have the latest version automatically load on whichever device I happen to be using... the cloud is awesome. Once you let go of that deep-rooted obsession of storing files on your computer, amazing possibilities happen.
Question, does Trimble, Leica, or Topcon, Microsurvey or Carlson yet offer Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive as a source or destination for file transfers?
Have You Checked Out Open Office
I used this in the past. Not sure if they have a android version. But the windows version is free. www.openoffice.org
