Hello all,

We have a Leica MS60 robot that came with a CS20 controller.
Overall the guys really like this set up but we have been having one issue with it.

When staking points in the past they automatically get collected with 10,000 added to it so point 525 becomes 10525, point 642 would become 10642 and so on. This has been a very easy way for us to know automatically what each stake point is associated with.
If we have to do re-stakes we simply keep adding 10,000 so the points would be 10525, 20525, 30525 etc... (hopefully there are not a lot of re-stakes!)

We may need to change way the way we collect our data but with the Leica there is no way to add a number to the points as we have done with Topcons in the past. It appears that Trimble can also do this.

We have tried various iterations of this in the Leica and cannot get the same results. Our vendor understands what we are after and agreed that this system works nicely - its just getting it implemented into the newer software which does not seem to be happening.

So, after this long explanation can anyone offer advice of how they collect their information with Leica systems for layout work?
Better yet, how is the stakeout information collected.
Much appreciated.

Don't use the same equipment, but we just code the descriptor "CHK652" etc and let the point numbering fall wherever it goes.

im not using captivate but with the last gen Leica software (smartworx viva) you could config the stakeout to add a prefix to your store pts.
ex. staking pt 500 setup to store with prefix of 1 store pt would be 1500.
Once in the stakeout app >function>config.

Yeah - that is kinda what we are doing at the moment.
Hard to break yourself of a routine, especially when it works really well
Thanks

Thanks - i could have sworn we tried that and it just didn't work - will check it out again though.

These settings will yield exactly what you want:

Thanks Cameron - we thought that would work also but the idea is to add 10,000 to each point as follows:

Point 52 would become staked point 10052
Point 520 would become stake point 10520
Point 1520 would become stake point 11520
Points 5520 would become stake point 15520
Basically if you took 10,000 from any of those points you would know the original point number instantly.

In the method you suggested (and we did try this!) you get the following
Point 52 would become staked point 1052
Point 520 would become stake point 10520
Point 1520 would become stake point 101520
Points 5520 would become stake point 105520
This does not follow the convention we are going for. The points of different values wind up not being associate with 10,000 any longer.
It would be ideal to not have it as a Prefix or Suffix - simply an added value. Like I was saying I know Topcon gives you this option and I am pretty sure Trimble does also.

Thanks though

I realize it's not as automatic as you would like but if the person running the instrument pays attention and understands what you want on the backend it's easy enough to do. If your stake number is 52 they have to make the prefix 100. If their stake number 5520 they need to set the prefix to 1. I wouldn't expect there are many days where they would be staking across multiple number ranges and wouldn't need to change the setting more than a couple times but your mileage may vary.

yeah, I got ya. I have done plenty of layout in my day though (not so much anymore) and the easier you can make things the better sometimes.
Stopped by a site today and it was crazy the amount of things going on at once all over the site.

I thought this would be a relatively easy thing for Leica to build in especially since the other two suppliers do so.
In Topcon it is the option "DESIGN PT + CONSTANT" which is very simple. They also have the Prefix / Suffix options also along with others.

Like I said, I know we may have to change to something like you suggested, just seems like a not so difficult thing for Leica to add in a release.

Maybe a stupid answer, but try "+10000"

I have had other software that would allow you to do this within input fields. They did not document it though, it was simply stumbled upon.
