Does anyone have experience with inserting a geo-referenced photo into ACAD, specifically C3D Map?
A job that we are doing only requires GIS :-O 😉 grade surveying. One of the tasks is to have a photograph as one of the attributes. The photo was taken with the GIS :-O 😉 grade GPS unit, a Trimble Juno.
All of the data has been processed in Pathfinder and said info is now in C3D Map. Everything except the photo. We have tried several options which include adding the raster data path to ACAD, but we cannot find the photo inserted in the drawing.
Can any of the said photos be inserted, in their correct location, to C3D Map?
If so, do they come in as a visible raster image or is it something that we can "click" on to expand the photo (preferable)?
Do you have the accompanying "world files"? If so, do you know what datum the the photos are on? Here is a link that may be helpful.
You got to have the world file to get the geo-reference coordinates and other information. If you have those you can use FDO or mapiinsert to get the pictures in.
The photos I'm trying to get in are nothing more than a picture. The same way a person would insert a photo of interest into Google Earth. IE, you see the camera icon, you click it and a picture opens up and you see Mt. Rushmore.
Geo-referenced aerial photos aren't the concern in this instance.
I'm trying to link/connect/attach a GIS attribute into ACAD Map, preferably with a thumbnail type icon that can be expanded. OR...
Can I get that photo of Mt. Rushmore linked/attached to the ACAD drawing as an object of some sort?
I haven't done it in a while and don't remember the exact procedure but you need to link it to a point or object. Hopefully Deral will chime in. He is the master with AutoCAD Map and that is where you need to do this.
Maybe you could search the POB site to find some of Deral's papers on GIS in AutoCAD Map.
Yes, I have been reading through the F1 Help topics. I have gotten as far as needing to use a Data Link Table, but of course all things ACAD, they make it difficult to navigate their help topics.
More reading....and yes hopefully Deral can give some insight.

Your best bet is to get x & y coords on some man holes or other visible surface features. Then scale the photo to your ground coordinates. Next, rotate and transform the photo on to your surfaces coords and you should have what you want to see. ACAD14/Map and above will allow you to do this with out much trouble. In GIS vernacular, this is known as "rubber-sheeting".
I've done this years ago with fire hydrants.
Each one had an unique number, like FH-1, FH-2....
1st, you make an .exe out of the photo. (FH-1.exe)
2nd, write a little LISP routine that gets the unique number, shells out to the photo sub directory and issues the command FH-1, the photo then pops up, until you close it.
Pretty simple really.

What about inserting an HTML code for a URL of the pic? Just a though.

Deral made a tutorial for doing this in Autocad Map. Good luck trying to find anything on the old POB archives.
Yeah, that's an interesting thought, as long as you're running a new enough version of Autocad. At some point a few years back (I forget when), they added the ability to add a "hyperlink" to your drawing. I haven't tried experimenting with that functionality yet, though (another thing for the "to do" list...)
But I'm getting the impression that the OP wants to create a Shapefile or some such thing with an image as an attribute, in which case I suspect Deral's Map tutorial might be more illuminating (although I haven't seen it yet myself)...
It's been a while but I think you can create a block and attach a hyperlink to it but not sure it will open in the .dwg. It probably opens in a new window which is not what you are looking for but maybe it can be modified to do so.
The command is "mapiinsert". Use the two "i"'s in the command line. A dialog box appears, make your selecations, meters feet etc.
I usually create a layer called "raster insert" and make that active.
Next use "imageframe" to determine your raster frame condition. 0=FRAME NOT DISPALYED OR PLOTTED. 1=FRAME DISPALYED AND PLOTTED. 2=FRAME DISPLAYED BUT NOT PLOTTED.

I don't have a place to host my documents. All are in MS Word and I think I did several different ways to include images inside map. Hyperlinks or direct inclusion.
