I used to have Windows XP. (Which I liked) but, alas, it was 32 bit.
So, I have moved up to a 64 bit machine. Well, then I had to abandon MAPTECH Terrain Navigator Pro. I have it sitting here on my shelf. But, I cannot use it.
So, I don't want to just use the USGS that I can download off the internet... for a number of reasons. One is, it tends to be lower resolution.
And, it also seems that Terrain Navigator Pro, has been purchased by Trimble Navigation.

I started to buy it last week, but then I found that there were other options.
Mark Silver, has one.

And, apparently, there are others. I am a USGS dependant surveyor... I think USGS!
And, I used to have a sort of way to use Google earth, with USGS in the background. I wish I had the SECTION LINES from USGS on top of Google Earth... Fresh aerial photos, with Section lines, yup, that's what I like. It would even be better, if I had all the Section lines, and the Contours, on top of fresh and recent Google Earth imagery.
Anyway, please tell me your favorite mechanism.
ALSO, the JAVAD LS has the POTENTIAL to install stuff like this, as a "Background Map" That would be nice!
Any advice, or counsel, would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Earth point makes a image overlay plugin for Google earth free of charge. For a yearly fee they have a section line overlay.
(I am cheap and just retrace the sections from the image overlay)
Nate, what state(s) do you need? Send me your address by private message.
There is not much demand for topos anymore... something called Google put an end to it.
We were among the first to make them, at times there were 20 other outfits making them. Now I fear we are alone. But we are still scanning BLM 100K maps, and we still get support calls every week for sets we sold in 1989!
Maptech is like ashtech, lots of name changes: maptech, my topo, terrain navigator, Trimble outdoors.
I do t know what the next step will be but I personally use them all the time. Can't start a field job without them.
Btw, usgs has them all (new, GeoPDF , old, really old, really-really old) online. The trick is getting them reprojected to state-plane or your ldp....
One thing about the iGage product, you get Mark Silver for support - priceless!
Nate,
There are some Google Earth tools here that I have found useful.

I use Mr Silver's program along with all the extras. I found it to be the best out there.
I like the Earth Point on my Google Earth. Works well for me, and it is inexpensive.
ExpertGPS
OSM, USGS Topo, or Aerial background tiles.
Locations in north america by T-R-S is one of my favorites. Fly to the whole tax auction list.
Nate,
Check your e-mail. I sent you to Giggle Earth Tools that may provide what you want.
AllTopo can't be beat! Has some very nice features...
Nate, I also use ExpertGPS, has some very nice tools.
