I usually export the points into an ascii file. And save the .raw and .job files. I just assumed the .job file only contained the coordinates and the raw data would be in the .raw file.?????

The .raw file is an ascii format file, ie/ the raw data in a text file format that can be read using notepad or a similar ascii file editor.

The .job file is a version of the raw data that can only be read, or altered, by a specialized program. In practice that renders the .job file uneditable. You convert the job file to raw and edit that.

The very best way is to load it up to a Survey Pro data collector, open it, and export it from the dc. If you don't have a Survey Pro dc, and still need this done, email me the .survey file (or post it here).

Thanks, Mark. I changed the extension to .txt so it would attach. I really appreciate this.

My results are the same as Jimmy's. And yours. There is nothing in the file other than coordinates.

Is it possible the crew copied these point into the file you are dealing with from a different data collector file? My guys have done this at times when they have inadvertently used the wrong file to collect data with.

I took that file and tried to open in my Survey Pro DC. It gave me an error that it can't open because it was created by a newer version of the software. I know that mine is older, from 2012 or something. Just am surprised that the format for the files has changed with the software upgrade.

If it's on a Nomad, and it's a conventional survey, there is a function to "Export to *.rw5" in there. One nomad we have has the raw file in native *.rw5 format and the other with the newer operating system requires it be exported.

Hope it helps.

No you don't. Have them make the export, copy onto a thumb drive, and email to you. 🙂 On our R10 it allows us to email from the dc and we do that quite often (and text but that's just to be cute). 🙂

I may have been right about there being no raw data in that file. I know that the old .CR5 fine only contained coordinates. The raw data was in the .RW5 file.

I never looked at the data when I converted it. It looks like the data in that survey file was imported from another survey file, or a ascii file. The survey file you posted does not have any raw information in it. I have looked at hundreds of the RAW files exported from survey files, and this is what you have looks like when they just import the data.

The SP records are "store point" records. Here is an example of a RAW file exported from a survey file.

Thanks, Jimmy. When the DC gets back, I'll look at the raw data in it. It there is none, we'll have to figure out why.
