So nice of Outlook Express to remove the Coordinate Files from emails sent to me because they are unsafe.
Any easy way to fix this other than having the sender rename the CRD extension?
Zip it up!
Zip them up, or use something like Dropbox. I transfer files all the time to a fellow surveyor for jobs that we work on together, and it works great. It is as simple as drag and drop.
I'm looking for
I'm looking for something I can do at my end to receive the CRD files.
I am having trouble communicating with the sender(s) and it becomes inconvenient to make the them go in and fool around with filenames every time I need a DWG file.
I'm looking for
you could forward e-mail to Hotmail or similar type of account.

For Outlook Express, check out the suggestions at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/329570

The problem is, once Outlook express downloads the emails (from Earthlink) they are gone from the web and it's too late to forward the email to a hotmail account.
It looks like I can turn off the feature in Outlook Express that blocks virus's but what I really want to do is block the virus files but just allow the CRD files.
I could still do the job except the file sender apparantly doesn't know how to rescal point attribles in Carlson/ACAD so the points layers are all HUGE text size and too hard to read. I need the CRD file to resize them!

I don't believe you need the CRD to resize points. Simply issue the Points -- Resize Point Attributes command and follow these prompts:
>Command: pntenl
>Method for resizing [/Absolute]? s
>Scaling Multiplier : 0.0833
>Scale symbols only, point labels only or both [Symbols/Labels/]? b
>Select points from screen, group or by point number [/Group/Number]? s
>Select Carlson Software points.
>FILter/:
>(select entities)
>FILter/:
>Scaling Carlson Software Point Attributes ....
>Number of entities changed>
>Command:
If you don't have the CRD and want a CRD for some other purpose, issue the Points -- Coordinate File Utilities -- Update CRD from Drawing command.
I think you need to make a step around the Outlook Express. Make an account in hotmail or gmail and have them attach their file and send it to both email addy's (OE and free web email) and then go directly to the web and get the file from your free email provider.
Or how about them sending the file as an ascii only?
Use Webmail or set a .crd file as an exception to the types of files to be removed.
Or set your virus program to let YOU make all the decisions.B-)
Because of all of the different softwares our clients use, we usually export the points to a comma delimited txt file. If your user does not know how to import a text file into Carlson or set the text height under "Draw/Locate points" then they need to slowly back away from the computer an hire someone more adept. (I know, I have clients like that too.)
I don't think that's a feature/problem with Outlook.
If you have it hooked up to an account like gmail (IMAP4), like me, they make the rules - not outlook. Gmail doesn't like me sending or receiving zip files. More especially, it examines the content for executables and such.
In that case, rename the zip file as a txt file and tell the receiver to rename it back to a zip file and all will be good. Been there, do that.
Have the sender change the extension to .jpg. Once you receive it, change it back to .txt or .crd or whatever it originally was. I've done this a zillion times when emailing a .exe or .mp3 file to my brother.
Eric beat me to it.
Ladd's got it. No CRD needed. Or, if you really want a crd, make a new one and use "Update CRD from Drawing". I use the CRD for F2F, then never use it again.
Thanks Ladd
Yes, it did work without the CRD File!! I never even tried it as I thought you had to have the CRD file to do anything.

Everything will change in two weeks when I ditch this 7 year old computer and dial-up, and hook up my brand new computer to the newly installed high-speed internet.
Going from 56K to 7M!

The wife wants it but I think it's overrated.

You don't have to drop your drawers EVERY time you have to go. Those outhouses get downright chilly in the winter.
