Anyone using this? Having any problems connecting?
I haven't used it in a while; however, I did notice that the earlier versions worked MUCH better and ended up going back to one like 2.3 instead of the more current. Had zero issues then.
I use the NGS Data Explorer instead. I use it for "desk top" recon using the street view to examine the site conditions for safety, sky view, etc... I am often able to find the mark, or the witness post, in the image after closely reading the "to reach" description on the datasheet (or determine it is likely no longer there). If it is a bench mark only with a "SCALED" horizontal position, the "dot" location for the mark can often times be hundreds of feet off and even on the wrong side of the road, so reading the mark location description carefully is critical to finding it in the imagery.
Jim: probably the problem is that NGS went to https a few weeks or months ago. I can still use dsworld, V3.00.51, but it cannot check for updates. I just retrieved a plot-->marks-->published-->By state and county...and it worked.
Thanks for that info John. I'm using V3.00.51 but it just times out... I know Malcolm has no budget or funding for maintaining things so I guess I'll just wait and see what happens
I'm with Kris. I tried using a newer version, and had problems. I had to revert back to an older version I had archived, and it works.
Downloaded it last week and have no issues. Will check version shortly.
As an alternative to DS world I have been using a Google Earth file from NGS or NOAA. It basically works the same way that DS word does. A quick google search should bring it up.

I am running version 4.01.00 on a win10 machine. Runs just fine...
Interesting... Are any of you running through a server?
I live on DS world and tell every surveyor I meet about it!!!. That being said I don't connect often, because I save all of my searches in my GE into folders, only when I venture into new waters do I run DS.
I also use the NGS Data Explorer : https://www.ngs.noaa.gov/datasheets/
I don't have administrative rights to download and load programs at work and it is a great many hoops to jump through to get it done... most of them are on fire
Just click the map and then zoom around to where you want, pull down the layers tab on the left and click find marks
