Of course, there are unlimited customization options in Civil 3D for labeling bearings, distances, etc., between survey points, but what if you want to show the record distance under/near the measured distance for each course? Right now, I just use the "edit label" command and add the text manually for each line, but if the style gets changed, or you're not paying attention, all those label "overrides" get wiped out forever.
Can someone please share any tips on a good way to do this, while keeping the added text part of (associated with) the label so it moves and scales with the automatic text parts?
I've fought with this myself and getting those measurements added to the line table appropriately.
One suggestion I've come across is to place a line on a "no plot" or "defpoints" layer at the record angle and distance, then label the line. After that, you can either leave the line OR explode the label from the line and delete the line then place the label.
I'm interested in what others have to say also....following.

@squirl I hear what you're saying, but I wonder if you label a line that's on the defpoints layer... I think it won't print that associated label - even if you code it to a different, printable layer in the style.
The label is controlled by the label style, not the line being labeled so it does print as expected.

I'll test it since I'm right here...stand by.

I tried something similar (probably 10 years ago) and it wouldn't print any labels attached to a defpoints line no matter what. I haven't tried it since, but it seems to work. Still not ideal, of course, but it is a good alternative that would keep the overrides from disappearing.
If you don't want the defpoints line to be in the drawing, you can explode the label from that line and delete the line, then group the label back together using Convert Text to Mtext

i use a layer (-250) that is set to a no plot color.?ÿ this measured/record labeling method has worked for years for me
