I've been spending about an hour after work every day learning Carlson Survey. The senior surveyor has been printing out plats and creating assignments for me to get done. He favors Visual COGO because it works like the old TDS COGO card and it draws lines as you traverse. Anyway, I wish I could use a shortcut code for bearings and distances. Something like 2.1 to enter a bearing when I'm traversing around a boundary and I'm running SE instead of NW (points 1 to 2). Also, something similar for repeating existing distances between 2 points. Any suggestions?

Perhaps you might explore the COGO -- Traverse command as it is designed for the "10-key" input and explore the ancillary options of COGO -- Raw File On/Off and/or the COGO -- Line On/Off command.

I hope this information helps.

Have you tried Extend By Distance??ÿ

If you don't have a button for it, you can add one or type "extender" in the command line.
Then select a line to extend. Simple type a distance and the line gets that much longer.
There are also 16 other options after selecting a line, but I really only use B and T.
B lets you enter a bearing by (Qdd.mmss) hit enter and then enter the distance.
T lets you change the total length of line.

Don't forget the inverse command. It's the best function in Carlson.

Yes. To the right of the distance input field there's an icon. Press it, and you get a horizontal toolbar with +, -, *, and /. I extended a distance using the + button while maintaining the same bearing. Very easy!

It's a useful function, however I can't say it's the best function in Carlson because I just started learning how to use it. I need a function where I define a line and get a report (point number, distance left or right of the line) of all points along that line.

You might want to spend some time learning the "Enter Deed Description" command under the Survey menu. You can enter bearings by quadrant number. S 20-40-15 W is entered 320.4015. You can just hit the Enter key for a repeated bearing, then enter the next distance.

centerline -> calculate offsets -> (check settings dialog) ok -> pick polyline -> selection set or group (if select, window points) you should have a report with points as needed. experiment with selection or just pick a point in cad.
