Is there a way to bring back points that were accidently erased with the full code description they had, not just the drawing description? I know you can update CRD file from DWG, but they do not come in with the full coding that you did in the field.

Proper Procedure

Is to save an ascii file of all downloaded points, prior to bringing into the CAD crd.

My procedure is to use the job number and date: 1234-2013-05-09.asc

Same goes for 1234-2013-05-09.raw

They are then ordered by date in the data folder.

I use the .asc file extension rather than .txt, so that if I click on a .asc file Windows defaults to my data software.

If you have the raw file of field observations, you could check the Survey -- Edit-Process Raw File -- (open/import the raw file) -- Process -- No Adjust to re-create a coordinate file.

Pre-planning saves problems later and also creates the rule "NEVER edit your original crd file." ALWAYS create a NEW crd file and copy the final points into it, then edit away. That way, when you screw up (and you know that you will) you can recopy the original coordinates as needed. (Yes, I learned this the hard way!!) :-$

I do not change my original raw data files. But I do have to edit the cords on a 1200 shots topo with much curbing to get the F2F to plot correctly. Yes, I'm not good enough to get all 1200 shots codes perfect. Unfortunately, after a late night and early morning I deleted a block of points during one of my edits. I could reestablish the original cords, but not all the edits. Not sure why you can't undo a coordinate file change, it seems like a no brainer for a survey package..............

Yes after over 25 years of surveying, I have learned many ways to TRY and eliminate problems, but they still do happen.

Point History: All changes to the coordinate file will record the commands performed on this coordinate file and the status of the points themselves. This makes up the coordinate file history. The history can then be reported by point number or by command. All of the changes can be rolled back. It is important to note that if maintaining such a history file is your objective, in the Settings > Configure > General Settings dialog you must make sure that Maintain CRD History File is checked.
