Does anyone have any ideas, maybe Ladd can help, to get my layer dialog box back.
I have 2008 Stand Alone. I tried the knowledge base. the regedit, reloaded my software, different log on. Still no Luck.
When I type layer or hit the tool it says '_layer - nothing happens.
I don't think it's the screen either, I do use a laptop with an additional monitor.
But I can't see the layer box no matter what.
Thanks
So you don't get any dialogs? or just layer?
Try print or options or units at the command line for example.
Try typing cmddia and look at its value. 0? Try 1. type 1 and hit enter.
Right no Dialog box at all
Other commands I type in work
I edited the previous reply.
you can also check the layerdlgmode variable. set it to 1
I believe typing filedia should work and then enter 1 or 0 can't remember which ..... let me know if that helps???
it's def. a system variable but not sure which one.
I seem to recall that the filedia variable sets the save as and file navigating dialogs.
It may work.
Yogi let us know please.
thanks
try unplugging the additional monitor
Either try:
(A) (already suggested above) type "filedia" and change the toggle to 0 or 1.
-or-
(B) type "options" then choose the "profiles" tab (then I can't remember exactly what is next, but mess around there, as I recall this is where I have found my solution to this very same problem in the past):

"FILEDIA" always worked for me in AutoCAD when this would happen. With regard to the monitors, make sure there is not a third monitor selected in your windows display settings. That happened to me one. There was an imaginary monitor between the two I was using and stuff was getting lost in there. It was making me insane until I figured it out.
You can go into REGEDIT and change the start location of the window. This is a very BOLD and EXPERT move, so if you choose this path be careful. One wrong move and **[SYSTEM FAILURE]**
You can go to the SCREEN RESOLUTION (right click desktop, screen resolution) and move the location of screen 2 relative to screen 1. If your LAYER window is in an odd location, you can track it down.
You could try changing your default screen resolution to some temporary alternate resolution to see if the dialog comes back or possibly try the suggestion described in this Missing or Hidden dialog boxes in AutoCAD blog.
For the sake of the conversation (as excerpted from AutoCAD on-line help):
>FILEDIA (System Variable) - Suppresses display of file navigation dialog boxes.
>CMDDIA (System Variable) - Controls the display of the In-Place Text Editor for the LEADER and QLEADER commands.
I don't believe FILEDIA will have any impact on the Layer dialog box.
Ladd, would a corrupted surv.ini file do this?
I have tried all suggestions, nothing has worked yet.
I have not tried the regedit yet
I don't have the profile tab in 2008
> I don't have the profile tab in 2008
Brad evidently has his Carlson loaded on top of Land Desktop. You have stand-alone Carlson. So you won't have a profile tab.
Since all else seems to have failed I might suggest that you reload the program from scratch.
i noticed you mentioned user profiles...this sounds crazy but i had similar problems in 2008 and created a new WINDOWS user login...this resolved the issue...some sort of security problem
Try this, it has been a kind of reset for my 2008 stand alone when I have had funky issues.
OK, that is a fairly common issue. Please close the Carlson program and go to the Windows Start button - click on Run and type regedit (in Windows 7 type regedit in the search field) - this will open the registry editor. Once in the editor, carefully browse to the following folder:
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareCarlson SoftwareCarlson SoftwareR200xSURV-x001:409
Right click on the SURV-x001:409 folder and choose delete. Close the registry editor and restart Carlson. Please note that this process will reset the program back to the default configuration. Let me know if this fails to resolve the issue. Thank you.

Doubtful. It's possible a recent Windows update or installation of a different Windows application might have delivered an different or updated Microsoft run-time DLL that is now conflicting with the Layer Dialog box.
There might be some additional ideas discussed at Layer Properties Manager does not appear.
