Need to go look at some older deeds at the courthouse so I thought I would post this question before trying a re-install.

Using Carlson Survey 2018 W/ IntelliCAD, just this morning I started having a printing issue.?ÿ I am trying to print, from model space, an 11X17 drawing to my Brother MFC-J6935DW printer.?ÿ This is a set-up I have been using for a very long time with no issues.

Today, when I click the OK button to print, the small square "Printing" screen shows up and the printer gears up as if it were getting ready to print, but then the printing screen that shows the document, # of pages, printer, and port just stays on screen with the "working on it" icon spinning.?ÿ Eventually, I try to cancel it and Carlson is no longer responding.

Printing from other programs (Word, Excel, Adobe) still works fine.

Any thoughts on what is going on or alternatives to a re-install of Carlson?

Hopefully you hit "save" before "print". I would venture to guess this is not a Carlson problem because I am having the same issue with the latest version of Microsurvey which also uses Intellicad. My problem is random and I've not taken the time to contact the vendors who will likely ask if I've updated my printer drivers. I've not.?ÿ

Printer driver issues, would be my guess.

I got a virus once, as a print driver. I had to re install.

Fortunately - yes I saved prior to printing.?ÿ After making that mistake too often, I am an over achieving saver!?ÿ I hit that save button frequently.

Print drivers are up to date.?ÿ I don't think it is an issue with the printer or print drivers because the same thing happens when I try to print preview or print to any other printer connected to this PC.

Exchanged a few emails with Carlson support.?ÿ Hopefully can get to the bottom of this soon.

My go to workaround on printing issues.

Print to PDF.

Then print the PDF.

I had an issue with ICAD printing in model space recently. I ended up opening my file with Autocad, saving it, opening it with ICAD, selecting the printer I wanted, and like magic it worked.

I really have no idea what happened 'cept the file had passed through a few stakeholders after originating from me. It's a real pain.

Steve

PDF was one of the options I tried.?ÿ It also froze.?ÿ Even when just trying to do a print preview, it would freeze up.

I came back to the office this afternoon and tried to print a different file - which worked just fine.?ÿ So I tried with the two I was having an issue with (one of which had been printed just a week ago).?ÿ Problem was still there for those two drawing files.

I WBLOCKed the linework needed out and magically that file printed just fine.

?ÿ

Like Steve suggested, must have been a file corruption problem.

What's the consensus on Carlson with intellicad??ÿ Has intellicad worked out the bugs or is it still problematic to work with??ÿ At the end of the year I'm looking at upgrading my carlson standalone from 2014 so I was wondering if I should switch to intellicad.

My civil design work goes through C3D still.

My boundary work is going through ICAD-Civil Survey.

I am not changing either workflow. Steve

For the basically exclusively boundary work I do, the IntelliCAD option has been working very well.?ÿ Way back, I had AutoDesk Field Survey and had as many issues with it's (I'm guessing) ACAD Lite engine as I have with the current version of IntelliCAD.?ÿ It took very minimal time to get adjusted to IntelliCAD.?ÿ I have occasionally developed contours and had no problems.?ÿ I also use large aerial images, new and old, as a means to deed plot and plan out jobs with no problems.

Once out of a blue moon I will have a Carlson created file that will load on the computer and let me do new work on, make calculations and then I will download whatever and save as a file as I go along and at the end of my session.

The problem show up when I try to print or use the job after downloading to a data collector it will not print, use the data to stake points and a corrupt file will not allow any new collection of raw data.

Try an old job or create a new job and everything works fine.

This has happened since I got Carlson Surveyor1 back in the mid 1980s.

There is some ghost in the program that does not like certain filenames or that randomly once or twice a year it decides to showup and screwup a file.

As far as the drawing itself not printing or some commands not acting correctly, I believe it has to dowiththe scaling or setting of some hatchwork that was placed in the drawing.

Once I had a drawing that would not print to the desired scale and I deleted all hatchwork and everything started working again.

I am fairly positive that Bruce has designed a few simple commands that act as a backdoor that will open the program to where it can be written to and make changes as needed. I've hit a few wrong keys before and all of a sudden my screen is full of machine language and by using DOS commands to exit out of the program it all goes back to normal.

When anything weird happens, I rename the file, save it to another location before reopening and starting new work to the drawing.
