As I replied to 'LowcountrySurveyor's post, I am testing the Carlson Survey 2013 software because I am about to get a new PC and thought I would upgrade software at the same time.
In looking around, it appears that most PCs are shipping with Windows 8 now. Is anyone running Carlson Survey 2013 in Windows 8? Or do I need to make sure and get a Windows 7 machine - as the Carlson website indicates they are not yet set-up to run on Windows 8?

From what I was told this week regarding the latest Carlson 2013 for IntelliCAD/AutoCAD add-on:
>This build fixes the install error when installing on Windows 8, has the updated IntelliCAD engine and has bug fixes.
As a result, the current version of Carlson 2013 with IntelliCAD appears to be Windows 8 compatible. However:
>[We've] heard of some trouble with the OEM engine on Win 8. Also, [we've] heard that AutoCAD 2013 does not officially support Win 8.
When I checked the Autodesk web-site for Windows 8 compatibility, (as of today) no AutoCAD-based products are listed as Windows 8 compatible:
Windows 8 Support for Autodesk products
Depending on what you're running, Windows 7 might be the safe route to go for now.
I'm running CS 2013 w/AutoCAD with out any problems on Windows 8. Now Windows 8 well thats another story.......
Thanks for the replies.
I replaced my old laptop a few months ago. It has Windows 7, which seems to be pretty decent so far.
Given the info provided, I'll continue looking for a Windows 7 machine configured as I want it.
Remember that Windows 8 Pro includes downgrade rights
to Windows 7 Professional at no additional cost.
Check it out on the Microsoft web site, just search for "Windows 8 downgrade rights" or something to that effect.
The downgrade option may be more practical than searching for a computer with Windows 7 installed at this late date.
When/if Windows 8 is what you need/want you will already have what you need to go that way.

The part you have to be cautious about is whether or not the computer manufacturer provides drivers for Win7, because Win8 drivers may or may not be compatible.

Thanks for the warnings.
I was able to find a machine with 7 Pro and option to upgrade to 8 Pro.
It is on its way now so all that is left is to try the different software options and choose an upgraded drafting package.
