Carlson 2016 with Autocad engine.?ÿ?ÿ
Sometimes, I think having too many options is just as annoying as having too few.?ÿ?ÿ
Can someone help me... I simply have some angles and distances from one setup?ÿ in notes and want to actually just draw the lines.?ÿ I can't seem to get all the toggles set right for that simple task.?ÿ ?ÿ
I don't want to create points.?ÿ
I don't have bearings or azimuths.?ÿ
?ÿ
I just want to draw some dang lines.?ÿ?ÿ
?ÿ
thanks.

I run Carlson on top of Autocad but i assume it's the same. The command is "travline".
?ÿ
Hack
Points/Point Defaults/uncheck Point numbers/ok
COGO/Line on/off
COGO/Locate by bearing-ang/by turned angle
?ÿ
You can use a line between the setup and BS points, or the point numbers
It's been awhile. (Older version of Carlson)?ÿtype 'L' in the command line; prompts you to select point - screen click, or type in point number - then type @123.45'<123.1234?ø. The angles are cartesian (+/- 180?ø normalized to East. '+' angles left, '-' angles right)and I think you need to check your DMS/D.D. format. It's an Autocad command that works in Carlson.
COGO drop down>Line by angle/distance.
enter quadrant
enter bearing?ÿ
enter distance
fin.

WHOA.?ÿ oops, reading comprehension skills were off.
?ÿ
same thing, cept when it prompts you to pick a point or point number... do that.?ÿ then hit "O" for options.?ÿ then you can designate right angles instead of bearings.
Thanks for the help... I'm still working it out.?ÿ I really hate where I HAVE TO CREATE A POINT for no reason.?ÿ frustrating!?ÿ?ÿ
I just use AutoCAD drawing commands. Draw a LINE from your instrument setup to your backsight
ROTATE by the negative of your turned angle, i.e. -125d16'45" (angles right in a left hand coordinate system)
draw a CIRCLE of radius the same as the line length you want
TRIM or EXTEND the line to the circle
Use 2dp for a polyline, pick where you want to start, type d for distance. Then it will want an angle code, 1-4 are your quadrants, 5 is azimuth, and 7 is angle to the right. I believe there is also an angle left but I??m not looking at Carlson right now.
not sure what the hangup is- there is no point created in the cogo>line by angle-distance routine i posted above, unless you want to create one.
?ÿ
and it's NEARLY as smooth as the old R12/14/LDD routine for hand-entering shots.

Then I must have a setting wrong or I'm not explaining it properly.?ÿ ?ÿSeems like I can't get it to NOT look for?ÿ a CRD and create a point. User ignorance is the heart of the matter.?ÿ?ÿ
As I wrote in my prior post.?ÿ You need to uncheck the point numbers first
?ÿ

Thank you.?ÿ ?ÿBut that kinda shows my point that there are so damn many options that need to be addressed, and are NOT intuitive at all .?ÿ I just found another example today..?ÿ?ÿ
I needed to do a distance label to convoluted building.?ÿ ?ÿWhen you select _DIS, there is no option for "select"?ÿ ?ÿbut if you go to the Auto Annotate pulldown, then click "ok" it shows?ÿ the option to "select".?ÿ ?ÿ ?ÿWHY??ÿ?ÿ
I don't know anything about the dimension commands, so if you're asking about that, then I can't help.
But line labels, which I use for dimensioning, I have the, Annotate Bearing-Distance menu/toolbar to the side, so I can click on whatever type of label I want to use.
As far as options, that's one of the best things about Carlson.?ÿ
I do agree that there should be a simpler way to draw a line by angle, though.
