Carlson Civil with Intellicad

When I moved to the OEM version, Civil was not included. I have in the past criticized the instability of intellicad and can now, after a little over a week, say that I found no instability issues with the 8.1 version and look forward to the future use of intellicad.

I have mixed opinions on intellicad. I want it to work. I have an intern using it and I have it on my laptop just to keep up.

It will not open my nasty working plan that contains hundreds of XREFs. It is not happy with multiple images being loaded. The layer manager is superior and contains more stuff. Scripts max out at 500 lines.

They are close and it will be a real contender soon.

Having been working with the new IntelliCAD builds over the past few months I have to say they are making real progress. Admittedly I did not have the time or need to push the limits with massive datasets, but the modest files I did have to work with seemed fairly fast and definitely stable. One thing for sure is that I give them an A for effort in everything I've sent in as feedback and they are working hard.

I process point cloud through Carlson Point Cloud running through IntelliCAD. Think running fieldwork from your desk but with the ability to click so many more points than the crew can obtain. I then run through what we call Z drawings - import the points, run field to finish, TIN and clean up before merging with the other drawing. It does just fine with these smaller plans that could have thousands of field points.

I organize my base property lines by recorded plan or compiled subdivision, each in an unique drawing. I import the scan of the subdivision, then WBLOCK it out and XREF as an Overlay so IntelliCAD will not slow down with the base plan. This allows me to keep the original subdivision on the original north, then rotate it to GRID and not have to worry about maintaining the integrity of the linework. To adjust record lines as needed, I return to the base drawing, make the adjustment there and add notes as to why the original subdivision was modified. It is XREF madness, but I am not sure of a better way to survey the world.

IntelliCAD has done well with the XREF minus the scanned image background. I did like taking the opportunity to switch on the record plan when needed, but it is just about as easy to open the XREF and have the image on there.

AutoCad will probably always be ahead as far as features, but I don't mind using a product with 10ƒ?? less features at the price difference. In fact the OEM version is missing more features then Intellicad is. Autodesk has never catered to the Surveying community, we have always had to rely on 3 party software. My complaint with intellicad was that, I just wanted to go and not be left on the side of the road every 15 minutes, it didn't have to be in style. I believe that they are there now.

Loaded Carlson 2017 with intellicad 8.2 earlier today, the text editor is like AutoCad now, no issues in 5 hours of normal use.:blush:

I've been using it too. It has been unstable--a lot more unstable than Acad. They claim that I should not be using the Quadro Pro 4000 graphics card, and that is causing the problem. Quadro Pro 4000 is one of the staples of the cad industry.

Today, I booted it and it said an update was available. I updated it, and now my registration won't work. I tried everything, all the options from 1 new install to windows update to hardware update. Cannot get it to authorize. And now I cannot get my Acad version to run after the update.

Probably all my fault, but gosh this ought to be easier.

Any of you finding it impossible to load Carlson Software this weekend. We cannot do it. Shows registration error. Totally shut down on required overtime work to meet a deadline. Apparently Carlson did not keep up with a Microsoft Windows 10 update. Their knowledge base says that the error is occurring, and what to do, and if that doesn't work, give them a call. This is completely unacceptable for anyone working after hours, which is common for us.
