Is there a simple way to edit or add to a curve label for
recorded arc distances or other curve components?
It does not appear this is possible through the
Text and Mtext boxes?

In 2013 you can do it under Annotate, Annotate Arc, Edit text on Arc or Tangent.

Use Edit Pulldown, Then Select Text/Edit Text
You can also edit a "BarScale" that way.
Each line of line/curve data table has multiple editable texts.
Simple to add to the end.
You can move boxes and insert a new box in the middle.
But renumbering lines/curves requires patience as I recall.

In 2012 you have to explode the table then it's editable, but not much else afterwards.
