I re booted it. I stood on my head. I called wife for help. I worked on it. I did it all. Still no go.
I deleted the above file. I wound up deleting my install.
And, re installing from the Carlson site.

Carlson tech said that it was a conflict with my antivirus, and my Carlson software. The anti virus thought that when I made a change, that some malware was operating. And, blocked, and corrupted it.

Hi Nate. For the GE thing I assume you want to see GE in ACAD the whole time as a background? Use the GEOGRAPHICLOCATION that is native to ACAD command, brings in a Bing maps underlay which is live as you zoom out it loads more or you can clip a section of that loaded map so it doesnt reload all the time. That you want or am I wrong?

Every antivirus and antimalware program I have tried never worked well with any Carlson, Autocad, AddCadd version on any verzion of Windows computer Ive had.
At some point they attempted to delete the root file or other internal command that makes the cadd program operate.
They have been responsible for screwing up every computer that has failed on my watch.
Keeping the cadd machine offline from the internet to avoid any infested, file that will allow an update or download fix has been the only real solution.
A few weeks ago while downloading GNSS to my Win7 64 Pro eigbt little utilitiy programs took over the machine and rewrote my root file commands, changed the drivers and brou v bt on the blue death screen and started the new installation sequence and started scrubbing the hard drive.
Was not able to restore any files.
Did not lose any data because I backup info thru the day after creation and save to filr or downloads tlo desktop and transfer immediately to external drives.

I'm running 14, I'll prolly upgrade next year. Really doesn't do much besides avoids the eventual "can you please resend that in Autocad 2004 please"

Anyway, I'm running 2014 and I was worried about the whole intellicad jargon. I have 14 with embedded Autocad. I'm not sure if that's still an option but if it is, I never noticed a difference with this and my previous versions.

Rich,
I am running the "OEM" version of Carlson 2016. I rarely have any issues at all.It has the "embedded AutoCAD".

The GEOGRAPHICLOCATION command (this is a new one to me) is not currently available in the Carlson Survey OEM product(s). However, the requested functionality can be closely approximated via this "poor-man's" approach that would entail a series of steps that should work:

 1. Launch Google Earth and navigating to your desired area of interest, and,
 2. Placing a pair of Google "point" placemarks into the area of interest (spaced as far apart from one another as possible), and,
 3. Saving the pair of placemarks to a KMZ/KML file, and,
 4. Issue the Google Earth -- File -- Save -- Save Image command to save the current area of interest, and,
 5. Issuing the File -- Import -- Import Google Earth File command to import the point placemarks saved in Step 3 above, and,
 6. Issuing the Points -- Draw-Locate Points command to place the pair of points into the drawing, and,
 7. Using CAD to place the image saved in Step 4 above into the drawing, and,
 8. Using the Edit -- Align -- 2D Align routine to map the pixel locations of the placemarks in the image to the coordinates of the points brought in through the KML file.

The placement of the image would/should be fairly close to a truth position... I hope this information helps.

It is not native to AutoCad 2009.

I used Carlson 2016 for a short while. Had a similar issue when opening the layer manager and xref's. Turned out to be the template was from a newer build. Replacing an older template solved the issue.

I have some more to say. Carlson has ALWAYS honored lifetime support. Even though 2009 is near obsolete, they have been nothing short of excellent to work with.
And, NO I don't work for Carlson.
Although I have given them a nice pile of ideas. If they ever made it there.

Did 09 have the new layer manager? If so, try CLA, classic layer manager.

Well, it's back. Splendeus, I missed your comment... Until this morning.
My crashing Carlson is back. Well, it was only partially fixed, it still was only partially fixed.
I am going to have to dig deeper, and fix this thing.
Carlson cannot crash... and me keep working.
Solution!!!

I'm not sure if people are still looking for a solution to this problem or have just given up.
The problem is in the Data Execution Protection in Windows this stops applications from running code windows deems hazardous. in the control panel/system/advanded tab goto the performance section and in there is will give you the option of excluding appliactions from the DEP. add autocad and all will be fine.

Yep it's that simple. There must be 1000's of hours wasted on solving this problem.
Mark.
Mine just Messed up again.
I hope this is it.
Thanks everyone.
Looks like I'm re installing again....
