So pre-civil 3d I would check my surface for blown rod heights &/or bad/lacking break-lines by generating 0.2'/1.0' contours.
In C3D I tried creating a Surface style "Tin-check" and setting the interval to 0.2' yet nothing will display. Also attempted modifying the default Contours 2' & 10' style to that 0.2' interval and still getting nothing on the screen.
Any thoughts on why that small interval won't generate/display, or a different way to "skin the cat" when it comes to checking surfaces is appreciated.
just wild guessing ... maybe your computer is not up to the task. try a smaller area

I would guess it's that you have the layers for the minor/major contours turned off in the display settings of the style or that the layer you have the surface assigned to in the style is turned off in layer manager. If you can display the 2'/10' contour style and changing the interval makes everything go away that's not it though...

Yes, the default 2/10 contour style displays properly; so I'm thinking its not a layer issue.

Good thought, I will try a smaller area.
I just did something similar to this because I wanted to contour a mean high water line and mean low water line. They were at uneven contour intervals so I added the interval I wanted contoured. Then I had to turn on the "display special contours" toggle somewhere in the surface settings. Try that under the display properties.
Another thing you can check is your level of detail. In the View ribbon, the Views section pulldown, Level of Detail. This is a toggle between on and off.

That was it, thank you very much

Glad that helped. You also asked about checking your surface. What I normally do is have another surface style where I exaggerate elevations. You can do that with borders, the grid, points, and triangles. I usually use a factor of 10, but YMMV. Then I use the object viewer to look at my surface conceptually. You can see spikes much easier with the exaggeration, and your grade breaks are also enhanced.
Good to know, I will play around with that.
