Don't know how many of you use this function, but...I had a drawing open and went to clipboard some text out of a block, instead of then hitting close block editor, I accidentally closed the drawing while the block was still on the screen. It did ask me if I wanted to save and I hit "YES". Upon calling the drawing back up, the only thing in the drawing was that block. The backups(BAK, SV$, autosave,) all useless.
Autodesk needs to incorporate a warning that you must close the block editor before closing the drawing.
Just an FYI
Thanks for the Public Service Announcement. There be dragons!
Yes - and it isn't very clear how you actually close the block editor.
I would disagree with that - it clearly states in the command line when it starts what to do to close it...
Jim, I am running version 2013/2014
There are no instructions at the command line for me.
However - now that my tool pallets is appearing properly, I can see that there is a tool on there to save and close the block. Before, when I didn't have the tool pallet, it was a big mystery how to exit the block editor.
Try the "edit block in place" command. It allows you to edit within the current drawing, and except for a "x" to close it the command, instead it ask to save or discard changes. Seems to be more user friendly.
I can't reproduce that. What version are you running?
I'm using 2014 Civil3D, "Edit Block In Place". Says to type "REFCLOSE" - works every time.
r12 with Carlson civil 2012. My drawing went from about 4mb down to 5kb. I usually double-click a block to open up the editor. when I am done modifying the block, I always hit the "close block editor" button. I am then asked to save or disregard changes to the block. but this time, instead of hitting the close block editor, I hit the close drawing "x". It still asked me if I want to save the drawing, and I cl;icked yes. (that may have been a mistake) And the rest is history. Haven't tried to duplicate it.
I'm simply double clicking on the block, which opens the block editor. Must be two slightly different commands. At any rate, thanks for the suggestions.
I NEVER say yes when it asks me if I want to save the drawing, I ALWAYS say NO, and it saves everything! I've never understood this, but it ALWAYS works for me.
You must have your drawing save parameter set at a very small time increment. If you don't save changes, no changes made after the latest automatic save will be saved. Surely you have lost something, it may be small and insignificant but there has to be something lost if you don't save when closing a drawing.
