And it seems just yesterday that I bought that file cabinet from Jerry. I guess it was really more than twenty years ago. It was probably about that long ago that I sold him a rock drill from a batch of four I'd bought to get a discount.

I'm trying to recall what Jerry did before he became a surveyor. For some reason working as a computer programmer comes to mind. Whatever it was, it didn't fit his Chill Wills accent and I always kept my eye on him after learning of it. :>

You had a good run, Jerry. Thanks for the memories.

Great person and great surveyor. Met with him several times while following his surveys and he always made the time to sit and discuss any questions I had.

For me, it was a toss up between taking the "Locating Original Corners" seminar in Concan during the middle of September, since the instructors were Jerry Goodson, Greg Smyth, Ben Thomson, et alia. or going to the TSPS Convention in San Marcos. Since San Marcos is only a half-hour from my house, that was my choice. My wife reminded me that I had commented that I did not know how long some of these "older" (read that as experienced) surveyors would be around. I have now lost a unique opportunity from a well respected and well qualified surveyor. I do not plan on missing the next seminar.

I met him near the Casa Blanca in DC at an ACSM convention.
He must have been a NSPS director. He was a quiet guy. He
seemed to be interested in promoting surveying versus blowing
his own horn. We need more noble people like him.

He seemed to promote county surveyors. Does Texas have county
surveyors?

Only in the rural counties. The urban counties have nearly all abolished the office, which in Texas is elected.
