We were friends on Facebook. We didn't personally know each other, but I'm sure we'd have been friends if we did. What a tragedy.

What was the nature of the accident?

I believe he was around 40, but more details should come out soon. I have heard that it was not work or automobile related, but again, more details will emerge over time. Some may not. Just a good man and surveyor gone way too soon.

I'm 42, and I think he was slightly older than me.

He just posted on Facebook yesterday at 10AM!!! WTH?!?!?

I am stunned. I have been friends with him on facebook for a while. My thoughts are with his family.

I will miss our "conversations" about our kids, he truly loved them and his wife, this is all so very sad to hear.

Noticed that Ian Wilson authored the message. He was a great contributor years ago on what has become this current site. He is missed. As I recall he nearly met his maker one day while surveying on a city street corner and was hospitalized for a period of time.

What a shame. We often compared notes on Facebook as we have kids in the same age range. My heart goes out to his wife and children.

Oh wow, this is shocking.

I'm in total shock. Was looking forward to meeting up for dinner while we are in town, as it was always a pleasure hanging out with Ryan and his family.

Ryan and I were both student assistants at Los Angeles Water and Power, so he would have been close to my age, but I believe he was a year or two younger. I would guess he was 44 or 45. My wife and I went to school with his wife, but they were not aware of each others existence at the time. They met later and it was a pleasant surprise when we found out they got married. "Worlds collided" in a good way.

Trying not to repeat myself too much from the CLSA post I made, but you could not help but like him immediately. This should not have happened. I absolutely hate the random decisions the grim reaper makes when it comes to this. Ryan should have lived a long life.

I am floored by this. Monday we were just talking about water as it pertains to pizza and bagels. Prayers are for his family.

Ryan was a good source of knowledge and always displayed a fine professional character.
I was going to reply to his bagel observation comment the other day but didn't.

In complete shock and disbelief. So very sad. There are no good answers. All of us need to completely re-evaluate the important things in life every day because things can change so quickly.
