To any and all that had any contact with him through this site.

I just found out from reading my latest issue of the Wyoming Lines and Points magazine, that Paul had passed away. It did not give any specifics such as date or anything, but I did contact Herb Stoughten in Cheyenne and he only said it was from cancer but no other info.

From the Wyoming Tribune Eagle - 23 November 2014

Paul A. Reid, 69, of Cheyenne passed away quietly Nov. 8 at home, surrounded by his family after a hard-fought battle with cancer.

He was born July 15, 1945, in Long Beach, Calif. He graduated from Porterville College with an Associate of Science in engineering, which set him on the path to his love of land surveying.

He loved learning every aspect of his profession. He said every day was like an Easter egg hunt. Every survey was a puzzle and he wanted to get the pieces right.

He was licensed in most of the western states and was appointed a U.S. mineral surveyor. He was a member and past president of many surveying organizations and was the Wyoming delegate to the Western Federation of Professional Surveyors.

He loved his wife, children, IPA's cigars, his dogs, fly fishing and scuba diving in Monterey Bay. He ran both the Phoenix and Portland Marathons, mostly for the free beer.

He coached youth soccer in Casper and was a National Intercollegiate referee. He also loved refereeing high school and junior college games.

He is survived by his wife, Connie of Cheyenne; daughter, Mary of Denver; son, Aaron of Fort Collins, Colo.; brothers, Michael Reid of Reno, Nev., and Dennis Johnson of West Sacramento, Calif.; and sister, Linda Reid of West Sacramento.

Paul was preceded in death by his stepfather, Boyd; mother, Ellen Doucette; and his sister, Susan.

As he wished, cremation has taken place and arrangements were made through Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel. A celebration of life will be at a later date.

Donations in his name may be made to the Professional Land Surveyors of Wyoming Scholarship, c/o Marlowe Scherbel, P.O. Box 725, Afton, WY 83110.

Paul had a brush with prostate cancer 12 or 15 years ago. After that experience he was a strong and vocal advocate for everyone getting checked for such health issues.

To the best of my knowledge, Paul kept that attitude until the end. So one thing we could all do in Paul's memory would be to heed his advice and get those periodic screenings. They cannot hurt and they very well could help.

Glen:
Thanks for posting his obit. I went to the Cheyenne Newspaper site and managed to find it and was going to post it, but so far my post hasn't shown up in the postings to Beerleg on my computer. The only way I can see it is to search my name in the Users Directory, then I can see all the replies.

I met him a few times in my capacity as NSPS Governor. He was a fine representative of our profession, and we will miss him.
