ISPLS just sent an email informing us that Loyce Smith, a longtime fixture in our organization passed away Christmas day.
Loyce walked our organization through more changes than I can count. Her encouragement kept me moving when my career was stalled. She will be sorely missed. I know some who lurk here were very close to Loyce. Peace to you and all who knew her...

Yes indeed, she will be missed. She was a good person. I'm pleased say that I got to know her.

She will be sorely missed. What a wonderful lady! I wish I had a buck for every hour she set behind that registration table at conferences.

Loyce was quite a person.
She was the first contact I had with the ISPLS. It was the conference in Boise 1999.
When you met Loyce, you didn't forget her, because she never forgot you. After spending only a few minutes with her at the registration desk, she knew my name, who I worked for, where I lived, and the names of my family. I didn't see her until a year later, when she greeted me by name, asked about each family member by name, and insisted on a full update of my career, etc. This happened every time at conference. She has an amazing ability to retain information about each and every person she met - probably because she actually cared about those she interacted with.

When she left our society, it left a large hole in the organization. She has definitely been missed the past few years, and will continue to be missed.

R.I.P.
