"One small step for a(?) man, One giant leap for mankind!"
His family's statement made a simple request for anyone else who wanted to remember him:
"Honor his example of service, accomplishment and modesty, and the next time you walk outside on a clear night and see the moon smiling down at you, think of Neil Armstrong and give him a wink."
It's sad news indeed.
I shook hands with him forty-two years ago when he handed me my diploma. I can remember that moment like it was yesterday.
I was 8 years old and living in Tomball, TX and watched him walk on the moon.
Godspeed and R.I.P. Commander Armstrong.
I just heard about it watching some news this morning. Indeed a loss. I remember watching the moon landing back in '69. It was gobsmacking to say the least. In fact I tried to watch every launch if I could - i.e. I wasn't in school or in bed.
he sure piloted and in some cases ejected from some unique machines ...

Neil Armstrong

WOW!
Side note, a B-58 & a B-47 sitting on the ground. Two of my favorite aircraft.

You would think they would fly that contraption far away from anything other than bare ground. Maybe they did and the photo perspective makes the two bombers appear closer than they are.
In a former job I had a co-worker (Architect) who was a B-47 pilot. He raved about what a wonderful airplane it is. It certainly is the most beautiful bomber ever built.
A childhood hero... gone.
Sad day...:-(
When he landed on the moon
I was on an airplane that had just landed at O'Hare. The pilot held the plane while the passengers went inside to watch the landing on TV. It made one proud to be an American. God with God.

When he landed on the moon
Don't know what the Dufus-in-Chief has ordered, but my front yard flag pole is flying at half-mast and will for the coming week (at least).
Here in Wapakoneta
Most of the flags are are at half-staff(mast),
a memorial service at the "Armstrong Air & Space Museum",where
'Wink at the Moon' memorial is planned for Wednesday evening.
Local newspaper, usually, on the newsstand, by 12:00 Noon , running late,
probably more than the usual 16 pages, two sections, but that is what Neil
Armstrong deserves.
Papers, were out just before 1:00 PM, still 16 pages, but 40% of those had
an article on Neil, with a 'special edition" due Thursday.
RIP
