I'm gunning for any that hover over my place, too. I'm all about the possible uses of drones and the technology, just don't hover too low over my place. If they don't need permission I suspect I don't either. Although a small drone would make good practice for a handgun, my "fowling" shotgun would probably be a better choice.
Damn the laws, they give me the creeps.
As this article points out, it's unlawful to fly over private property without the landowner's permission, and video voyeurism is illegal as well depending I guess on your state laws. But shooting down a drone is also illegal, should the feds wish to push the matter. As I understand it, under the letter of the federal law shooting down a drone has the same legal consequences as shooting down any other aircraft. (of course, with a manned aircraft there would be numerous other charges as well)
I think in this case the law enforcement involved made the right decision in leaving it a civil matter. It's totally one guys word against the other. If someone was hovering a Phantom over my house I'd shoot it down too.
I can see a market for a net attachment for a 12 gauge shotgun that will capture the drone. You can then speak into the recovered camera to the operator about consequences.

A while back, on this very beloved site, was a conversation about drones and flying over private property. Someone (don't remember who) posted a link to a site that one can register with that would disable the drones ability to fly over any property that is registered with the site. I should have the site bookmarked.... on my home computer... and of course I'm at work right now...
If I have time, I will try to find that discussion and link. Perhaps the same site would be able to block these new fangled things as well as the regular drones.

That would definitely be a big plus if it would work. I'm reminded of a "no call list" that was created to forbid telephone canvassers from bothering folks with sales calls....it never worked, trust me.
Maybe big signs in obvious places along one's boundary stating "POSTED - NO DRONES. VIOLATING DRONES WILL BE RETURNED IN PIECES."
If memory serves, it was in a thread, lets say 6+ months ago. I think the site claimed that it would take a month or so to set up the perimeter. If I can't find it today while screwing off at work, I will try to remember to look for my bookmark this evening.
Here's the thread: https://surveyorconnect.com/threads/drones.312844/#post-313004
Here's the site called No Fly Zone https://www.noflyzone.org/
Whatever that weapon will do...I like it.
I'll second that!
I was thinking more of a drone with a crash bar mounted all around it. When someone invades your space with theirs, launch yours and take theirs out of the sky.
Or make an attachment to the bottom that you can dangle a bunch of nylon sewing thread from and launch yours to a position above theirs and descend until their rotors intersect with the thread and it pulls away from your unit wrapping their rotors into a birds nest. Think "aerial bolo"....

Will I be able to find the W.Smith Anti-Drone Net Attachment at the Bass Pro a little south of your location in a few months?
