Since we were absolutely mesmerized with Montana when we drove through, a few friends of ours told us to watch the TV Show "Yellowstone" to see more beautiful Montana scenery. No one told us this show would be...addicting!! ?????ÿ
Wendell was impressed with the Surveying things that they got correct!! I was just impressed!! So far we're still into season 1.
My curiosity has the best of me...wondering if there is some truth to this show's content?? ?????ÿ
Well, there are large ranches. That part's true. ?????ÿ
?ÿ
Less than 1% of what they portray Montana and Montanans in that show is accurate.
The portrayal of our political structure is a joke.
The way that people go around killing others with impunity is laughable at best.
Don't even get me started on the topography and local climate of the "reservation" that is supposedly on the border of Yellowstone.
While the show is somewhat entertaining, like most things from Hollyweird, it sorely lacks in accuracy.
My wife and I do get a chuckle whenever they portray one of the actors as being in multiple towns within the state like it is a 20 minute drive. From Hamilton, to Bozeman, to Billings and back to Helena like it is a quick drive. ???? Most people are befuddled when they realize that it is possible to drive for 12 hours straight and still not leave the state.
I watched a 1/2 hour of one show. As far as it being true, no.
But how much fun would it be to watch a guy ride around on a 4-wheeler or horse checking fence lines.
Or branding, or running a cat to open up a road, or repairing a spring.
This stuff is ranch work, it's mostly dull and sometimes hard work. Some people love to do it.
I was working on one of those huge ranches and they lost (by lost I mean he quit) a new guy cause he couldn't get cell where he was working. It's not for everybody. What kinda show would that make.
Although I haven't watched Yellowstone I did watch Longmire, same type of supposedly local show. It wasn't even close to being realistic. A murder every week? Seriously!!! But it was a fun show anyway.
Yellow Stone:
Probably because they let their dogs doo what ever they want; where ever they want:

That just isn't going to fly, up here in the Evergreen State

Yeah, we were laughing about this too. It took us 2 days to get through Montana! But...oddly enough, we were both sad when we crossed from Montana into Idaho. We really enjoyed the drive through Montana. ?????ÿ
Topography.?ÿ Had absolutely no idea that there were mountain ranges in Kansas until Dad bought a television set.?ÿ The highest point in the entire state is 4039 feet on what is laughably named Mount Sunflower.?ÿ The high spot is less than a half mile from the Colorado border on a grassy hill that appears to be roughly the same elevation as a dozen other nearby hills.
As for accuracy of Yellowstone.?ÿ The one comment I heard from a lady who has spent much of her life around working arenas and owns several race horses was:?ÿ Who in their right mind has sex in the middle of an arena?
?ÿ
I grew up in a town that a certain Alaskan "reality" show was (is?) filmed in. I got through 3 or 4 just because it was interesting to see the places, but it is not "reality". Knowing the land and the people and the families for real kind of ruins the story they try to tell.?ÿ
And that is a show that claims to be reality. By that measure I assume that even the B-roll shots of the mountains are fake in Yellowstone.
I think the first 3 seasons were mostly shot here in Utah. They packed up this year and moved to Montana because the State ran out of money to bribe them to stay with.
Remembered that I read about this: https://www.deseret.com/entertainment/2021/12/7/22811964/yellowstone-what-utah-lost-when-paramount-moved-to-montana-kevin-costner-dutton-ranch
Admittedly, I have never watched this show. I probably have watched less than 3 hours in the last two years and I hated those 3 hours.
But I just bought a TV, hung it on the wall and I plan to start watching TV real-soon-now.
For the record sex in an arena sounds just fine to me.

While I make NO claim to knowing anything about Montana and/or Wyoming I did enjoy Longmire.?ÿ I also read all the books too.?ÿ Just entertainment with no claim to anything else.?ÿ Of course being from the South I'm used to stereotypes being just a TAD off of reality.

@mark-silver Give me a time and date. I'll start marketing the event and hopefully you can have a sold out arena.
So now I have to wait until season 4 to see Montana?! Phooey. ????ÿ
