Shaving is something that we all do. That is, all of us of the masculine, non-bearded persuasion. Well, let's just say masculine persuasion, because I've had a beard and still tended to shave around the edges. Doesn't everyone shave around the edges? Or do some of you just say "Those hairs just gotta be themselves and I'm not interfereing.”

Slight digression there. What I wanted to say is that there is a whole new experience available for shavers that will change your life. It’s easy and it’s free and it will blow your mind.

It has to do with changing habits. We shave the same way every day, don’t we? Start on the right side, blah, blah, blah; rinse razor, blah, blah, blah, shave neck, etc.

Tomorrow morning START ON THE OTHER SIDE! It will change your whole outlook, it will change your perception, it will improve your life and make you a more tolerant person.

It is so simple and healthful.

I discovered this years ago, but I only did it once. I was frightened by the power it gave me. You’re probably stronger and braver than me (perhaps more worthy). Try it.

I like shaving but maybe I'm weird. There is something satisfying about trimming the whiskers down flat.

I'll have try switching sides, Guru Don of the Zen of Shaving.

Another tip for those of the bearded persuasion: trim with an antique double-edge blade razor.

I let the beard hairs under my chin and on my neck get rather long and wooly sometimes if I'm not dressing up for a week or more. The twin-blade disposable razors I used for decades are impossible on long hairs. Even after using clippers to shorten them (and clippers don't get the ones that want to lay down) the razors clog very easily.

I've got my dad's old razor that uses double-edge blades like were popular in the first 3/4 of the 20th century. You can still buy the blades if you look around. That doesn't pull like a twin-blade razor, is easy to clean, and does a good job with some perseverance and frequent cleaning.

Beautiful post. Make a conscious choice for a positive change.

I think I will give it a go.

"an antique double-edge blade razor"

That does not sound like much fun.

Try the [msg=117810]beardo.[/msg]

You've been up in Paden's neck of the woods visiting the convent, haven't you? B-)

Have a great week!

Antique???! Just because my gold Aristocrat dates from the 1940s doesn't mean it's an antique! Oh...well maybe.

I've actually shaved with my grandfather's straights, which are even older.

But there are actually some excellent modern double-edge razors being made today.

If you're interested, check out this forum where EVERYONE uses double-edge or straights: http://www.shavemyface.com

There are several other forums also.

I use a double edge as well as having used a straight. I prefer badgerandblade.com as they cater to many interests. Nothing like whipping up a bowl of cream with a nice badger brush!

Full beard. No trimming per se. Sometimes pull the ones that go crazy and grow five times faster than their neighbors.

The secret to shaving around a beard with a multi-blade disposable (and making it last a long time) is to dip it in water and knock it blade-side against the side of the sink after every pass. That keeps the whiskers -- even the long ones -- from clogging it up.

I only shave my neck, but I usually get 6 months or so out of a disposable by following the above procedure.

Crazy Talk!

Sure Don... What's next?

I suppose you're going to suggest we all get dressed with our left pant leg first! Then what? One sock, one shoe, then other sock, other shoe?

Crazy talk!!!!

Somebody has to mention it...

....keeping SWMBO in her Brazilian mood, or whatever mood d'jour she's in. Valentines Day is always good for heart shapes. Not sure about the upcoming 4th of July, but some Stars & Stripes seem pretty festive and dooable, thus that's my plan.

Besides, they provide all this high tech battery operated vibrating multi-purpose device, so you don't have to clutter up your own $0.12 Bic Disposable with questionable residue. And do we really care if our goatee is 0.04' off center? Grows back pretty fast....

I thought us surveyors were always thinking outside the box to get things done. Some boxes are better left to precision to stay inside.

Seems like a bunch of rookies here...;-)

Shaved regularly until I was 27 and was always carded everywhere I went.

Then I kept a mustach that soon went on to be a full beard and kept it. My children did not see me without a beard until they were over 21.

Bought a BRAUN and used it until it just did not do the smooth anymore.

These days my trimmer with combs is a full service hair cutting machine. It keeps my goatee in shape and haven't been to a barber in years.

Now I shave once or twice a year. I am still on my first package of SCHICK disposables I bought 8rys ago.

The last time a razor was close enough to my face to do any damage was approximately 6:30 pm CST, December 24th, 1971.

I've never owned a disposable razor.

I never use a razor. Trim beard with scissors to keep it in some kind of shape. My beard grows very slow.

Years ago I had free access to a high-end hair removal laser. I very seriously considered lasering the hair off of my face so I could save three minutes every day and not have to shave. I didn't do it, and now I can have a whole new experience by starting on the other side.
